Do You Name Your Pens?

Recommended Posts

Do you guys name your pens? Or am I the only one who creates whole storylines for each of them? Please tell.

A fountain pen a day keeps the ballpoints away!

I only have one fountain pen right now, and I'm calling it Lamy. The next one will be called TWSBI.

I was a teenager when I got my first fountain pen (a clear Sheaffer school pen) and, at the time, thought naming things was fun. (I know for sure that I had a lunchbox named Loolah Q., for instance.) I called my pen "Bob." :)

However, Bob eventually had the biscuit, and none of my current pens has a name.

I don't currently but I have a friend who almost certainly would - she is super loopy. That said, it is kinda cool to think about the back story some pens have, imagine how exotic those stories would be if the protagonist / pen had a character.

No. But I did name my camera  .

They all have the same name -- "this'pen".

This'pen is going in the sunglasses pouch, and this'pen is going inside my pen case, and this'pen is staying on the computer keyboard.

I sometimes give them descriptive epithets.

  • She who dances smoothly upon the page.
  • My fountain runs dry.
  • Spewer of ink.
  • Ferschlugginer piece of &%!!#!!

Er, I mean, no I don't.

Nope - but I used to name my mobile phones back in the good old days when they still had individual designs; my Ericsson 520 was called Jar-Jar Binks for one. I have stopped doing that as all mobile phones (at least smartphones) more or less all look the same now.

My only pen with a regular name of sorts earned it in exactly this way - "Problem Child".

Yes.

Justus95 is: The Paladin. (The clip and the nib looks like a sword)

VP is: The Knight (The metal nib hood and the clip looks like a knight with a sword. )

C742 with PO is: The Conquer. (As this nib can conquer all papers.)

The justus95 has the name of champion also.

The 18k Elite is called Spectre because of the small size. It's friend is the Pilot Birdie which I named banshee.

I name my dogs because when they're wandering off I can can them back. Applying that strategy with a pen would be an exercise in futility.

Not sure if this has been suggested already but would a setting for localized regions or chapters in FPN be helpful? I don't know if there is a way to find local FPN members who would be nearby. I don't know if we want to be discoverable but a setting to know how many members are in 25, 50, or a 100 miles of each other might be helpful. We can create a regions specific network like Craigslist where people could use that to connect with nearby members, conduct in person sales, arrange FPN meetups

Hi again all, I forgot to tell y'all that I made the post about Sweden ink PIF. Most have probably found it long ago, but here's a link, anyway:

I read your blog post and all the replies with much interest. I'm a FP user in Australia. Been part of this forum for years but rarely post. I did come across your ink sharing thread and considered participation. For me it's not lack of interest but lack of time to play around with FP and inks. I'd feel bad to put my hand up for the box and just have it sit until gosh knows when...   I also think that the FP community in Australia is smaller, and I wonder how many in the community are

Even so, you'd end up with a fragmented list, and it becomes an O(N²) process for each prospective requestor to check what is available: effectively recreate the list of currently active servers (without any reliable up-to-date info upfront about the inks and number of samples on offer in the thread) from the sequential list of posts, which may be spread over two or even more pages, and then query each server independently to check what is currently on offer.   It comes down to not hav

If one wanted to do this, one could just use the "About Me" field which appears to be unlimited in size.  And if a bunch of people wanted to cooperate, the Member Title field (or signature) could be used to this end - "Ink Giver" (or some such) could be used by those with inks to give...  No software edits required.
