The nib was supposed to be fine, but it writes thicker than the F-nib safari I tried at the store. I bought the turquoise cartridge to write on yellow paper from staples. Every word begins and ends with a thicker dot than the rest of the word. Now I have to find out what is wrong.

Try a different paper. You may be hesitating a moment before starting a work and dwelling a second before lifting the nib for the next word. If you have an absorbent paper more ink will be deposited and so you have the thicker dots. Try your pen on a different paper and see if it helps. The thicker line could also be attributed to a more absorbent paper.

You are right. I just tried my "premium", a Cambridge yellow writing pad, and it is indeed better. Dots are smaller but still exist, I'll practice more. There is certainly a "scratchiness" to these nibs that I haven't experienced in other pens I tried earlier (lamy 2000 for example).

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
