Great Prices On Some Sailors & Pilots And Iroshizuku At J-Subculture

is j-subculture a single seller or a marketplace ?

i found a platinum 3776 red for $60 US and about $75 CDN so i registered and then put it in the cart

they had more than one red and i could not tell what the nib size was so i put in the message box "i would like a MEDIUM nib" and i ran that through google translate and pasted that in as well

the ems shipping is just the mail, correct ?

in canada we don't pay duty on anything received through the mail

i have no idea what i am doing and especially hope i get the right nib

the price is just too good to pass up

i haven't heard back yet but i only put the order in this morning

also, i assume that in the case of warranty work we are just out of luck, is that correct ?

Don't worry frogbaby¡ Great service, fast and reliable¡ The main problem with them is that you can't choose nib. So you have to buy what they offer and sometimes you don't find the specific color and nib match. Don't worry about language, they offer help in English and also Spanish.

i'm also tracking that Platinum, but I want the blue one (chartres), also 60 dollars.

Please, tell us how everything's going¡¡ And show your new pen when you get it¡

they have given me a quote of 8603 yen (which includes a commission fee, a handling fee and a transaction fee) not including shipping which i guess will be around $15 more so about $100 in canuck dollars

but i don't have a clue what i am buying so i think i will take a pass, i really do not want a fine nib ... i could handle a chartres or a bourgogne but just want to get the nib right

there are several japanese pens i am interested in at the moment so i think i will shift the money to another pilot maybe 743 or a sailor with a seller who is a little clearer about the model and the nib

You can check the final price by adding the product to cart and clicking on checkout, choosing shipping method and clicking for the final stage. There, before going to PayPal you can watch the amount of money you're going to pay.

As for the medium nib, I found a Bourgogne in M nib here: http://shop.j-subculture.com/items/detail/6BB77DD9DC5A89D

And here another M for Chartres: http://shop.j-subculture.com/items/detail/3DBC7AEABBA5E0F

I'll pull the trigger on that chartres with M nib very soon! If you do it before, just tell us how good it is! Hope I helped you with some info. It's really difficult to find anything in that website.

I checked the Chartres for Canada with expedited shipping. 9,270JPY = 77.56USD

For me, in Euros it's still very cheap (around 70 euros). Maybe in your currency it's more expensive.

i guess i was actually bothered by the colour of the bourgogne

so i ordered the chartres (and put a note to the seller in my paypal to please make it a medium nib)

if i now get a fine, se la vie, all possible precautions have been made :-)

i have usd paypal funds and it came to $81.76 with express shipping

not real money - electric money - easy too spend

anyway, thanks MV for your kind help

i'll let you know how it went

ps. i assume there will be a chartres left for you to buy ... or maybe you should buy the bourgogne ... hmmmm

For avoidence of doubt. J-Subculture are not a shop or auction house. They are in effect a buying agent. You ask them to buy something on your behalf and they go out an buy it. They will be doing it by going onto Japanese online shops and auctions then buying it then shipping it on to you.

The site is a little dis-jointed, the front end http://www.j-subculture.com/ has links to their auction, shopping, search and wholesale services.

Don't limit yourself to just the shop site. http://shop.j-subculture.com/

If you know what you want you can bid on auctions http://auction.j-subculture.com/

If you have a specific need - pen, colour, nib etc ask for it here: http://www.j-subculture.com/searches

Hope that clears up some misunderstanding.

It took a little while to get my head around what the type of site was.

Wow! Thanks for all that info. I only searched for products on their "shop", didn't know about the search for other shops. I'll take a look. I've been spending hours and hours on this website since I found about it... Exhausting and rewarding at the same time!

Now I'm in process of buying the so-much-desired Sailor Professional Gear Piccadilly Night... Thanks to Carpetdog!

http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/ginza-shimaya/item/11-8210-630/?s-id=borderless_recommend_item_en

I've ordered it from Amazon, and j-Subculture is doing everything for me. It's a Medium Fine nib, so its much more expensive than the Bold. It caught my eye some time ago and I just couldn't resist the temptation of buying it when I saw the possibility. In the US it is very expensive and I just can't take the risk of having to pay for customs. Hope it comes to Spain without extra fees.

What do you think about the pen?

No, it doesn't ship overseas. I couldn't buy from any site on the internet. It was frustrating. But Carpetdog told about j-Subculture buying things directly in Japan for you and I couldn't resist. I'll show some pics when I get it!

it arrived today

i got the quote on the 10th and i paid on the 11th, they acknowledged my payment within a few hours and shipped on the 12th

it arrived in canada on the 16th

marked "gift"

looks perfect to me, doesn't include a converter though which is fine

essentially half-price

and it IS a medium :D

after all that i may turn around and sell it as it really is a light pen, maybe too light though with a converter it will probably exceed the weight of a lamy al-star which i do like

j-subculture is my new best friend and based on this one experience i would have to recommend them wholeheartedly

Glad it worked out. Lighter is better, actually, because there's less fatigue when writing for long stretches.

These are the times that try men's souls. The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph. What we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly: it is dearness only that gives everything its value.--Thomas Paine, "The American Crisis", 1776

Wow!!! Looks perfect! Enjoy it! Good to know converter isn't included, I'm a converter user!

I'm waiting for my Sailor to get to their office from Amazon... Still some days to come...

Has someone discovered the Platinum 3776 Century with a Music Nib on j-subculture?

Is there a huge shipping price difference in shopping from their dedicated "Shopping" service and shopping from the "Search" service? Or are they the same? I want to order a blue Pilot Custom Heritage 92, a Prera, and a bottle of Yama-Dori, plus a couple of other things. Yama-Dori wasn't on their shopping service, but I'd be able to get it with the search service. I don't want to pay outrageous shipping costs, though!

(I hope this makes sense... )

You pay about 10% service charge if you utilize their search service, since it's them buying stuff for you from other shops, It's only worth it for shops that don't ship overseas.

for Sailor inks I recommend going directly to Rakuten dealers that will ship overseas directly, such as Voice or Komamono-honpo

Thanks for the links! I think I'll just stick to J-Subculture's shopping service and skip the ink, then.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
