I am thinking of purchasing a M205. I have read a number of reviews - some good, others bad - would you recommend getting one?

Yes. I would recommend you get one. Pick one you like, but I'd suggest taking a peek at the M215s as well.

I love them. The red one is my favorite by far. Nice weight, great balance, excellent ink capacity. Would not part with any of mine. Good luck with your decision.

I recommend 100%. I have a couple of Pelikans and they are awesomely smooth, steady and reliable. I like my Pelikans more than my Montblanc. If you get a good price go for it !!!

How about this for some extra motivation....

I would recommend waiting for a bit of a sale, but they are great pens. I have a 200 and a 400, and use both regularly. Great size, well buit, and great customer support. When I had a problem with a nib unit, they fixed it at no cost.

Yes!!! They are great little pens.

I picked up my very first M205 several months. It was also my first piston pen and I was impressed by how smooth it is. I loved the pen so much that I picked up 3 more M20x pens shortly afterward. And I ordered my 5th pen on New Year's Day. The size and weight is perfect for my petite hands. They all write smoothly (EF, F and I nibs).

If your leaning that way at all, absolutely. Even though Pelikan didn't end up my favorite maker, as I thought it might, I never regret having the 205 and happily use it regularly. I got an EF. I do prefer some other maker's EF nibs overall.

PS: Just noticed your Texas flag. It's not a big, big pen ... but still a great pen even for a Texan : )

Ok, so you have convinced me. What would you consider to be a good price? Pen chalet has one for $95.

Pen Chalet's price is good.

Doesn't get better than that...

Full disclosure: I bought a red one. ;)

The Pen Chalet price is good. They've had this sale going on for months (ever since I bought my first M205 back in August, not sure exactly when the sale started). And I'm not sure how the inventory works but I have seen color/nib combos go out of stock and then some will come back when I check again weeks/months later.

Some of the bloggers also provide a code so you can get 10-15% off at PenChalet. Take a look at Gourmet Pens, The Pen Addict, etc.

Yes, the M205 is a great pen. HOWEVER. Please be aware of its small size and girth. It is close in size and girth to a Pilot Prera or a Kaweco Sport. It is a small pen.

In my case, I plan on selling my new M205 (also purchased from Pen Chalet) because it is simply too small for me. I like the size of bigger pens like the Lamy 2000 or even the Pelikan M605.

tl:dr - The M205 is a great pen. Just know that it is a SMALL pen

They are great pens! Nice steel nibs with a bit of spring. The 215s are a bit more expensive and have an aluminium sleeve on the barrel, giving just that bit extra weight. Same nibs and 'workings' as it were. And of course, the 200 series are the same but with gold-plated nibs and fittings.

You can't go wrong with any of them - enjoy!

Ok, thanks for the suggestions. Sounds like Pen Chalet might be the best bet. I better go and see if they have what I want in stock.

Yes, I am a Texan. Actually a transplant from Georgia. I am not into to really big pens though. Probably more of a medium type of guy. Lamy 2000 and Custom 74 are good pens for me.

The 215. I was under the impression this was just a cartridge pen. It wasn't a piston filler. Is that correct?

M215 is a full-fledged piston filler, just a bit heavier than a M205 due to the metal casing of the barrel.
