I, too, adore the Sailor Honey / Hatchimitsu ink! And you're exactly right: it is definitely more orange in real life, but I guess it depends on the paper and pen, right?

Oh, and did you mention the silvery SHEEN?!

It's so pretty.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Hachimitsu is wonderful —not just for the rich orange color, but the silvery sheen. I have it loaded in an Edison with 1.1 stub nib.

Have I sent you CRVs with my "Egg Yolk" ink mixture? It's an intense orangey-yellow. I'll include some writing with it when I send back the handsomely bound Co-Razy Views, Volume I. [THANKS for letting me see it, by the way!]

If you have it inked up right now, add it to the page in the book in addition to the CRVs, please.

I was thinking we should send it to Texas for the pen show. Let's talk about it in the Pinks.

It's super bright! I think it's one of those rich colors that most scanners have a hard time picking up.

To my eye, only two straight-up yellows (not gold/doesn't shade to orange) in the thread, PR Buttercup and Diamine Yellow so I thought I'd throw in Skrip Yellow. Buttercup looks paler, while the Diamine looks a bit deeper.

While I really like the color itself (it's bright and vibrant, with even a little shading), it's terribly impractical: first, it's only readable under a strong light and, second, it only comes in cartridges so a little cost prohibitive for experimenting - a 50ml bottle would be great for that. I'm thinking adding just a bit of Ambre de Bremaine could yield interesting results.

In stead, I just ordered the Diamine to play around with.

It's hard work to tell which is Old Harry when everybody's got boots on.

I remember this so well from many years ago. Still a favorite. To me, it really had a more "golden" color than most inks called "gold" these days.

One of my new inks for the New Year: Montblanc Golden Yellow.

It's a really rich, bold color, and high quality ink from Austria, but unfortunately, I already have several inks of very nearly the exact same color. I was hoping for something a little more distinct. Oh well.

I hope they've sorted out the SITB problem of this ink...

Really? I hadn't heard that Montblanc was one of the affected inks. Well, in any case, I always add Phenol to any new ink that comes in the house, so I should be good! We can try an CRV if you want...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
