LG just sent me a CRV with Sailor Honey. OOOOOOO it's pretty.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

Interesting. The Helianthus I've got is so much less orange, and deep, dark yellow. Must be normal variation in shade from batch to batch...

Great, thank you Amber! I see the MB one is much lighter and yellower!

My Helianthus is a much lighter/brighter, and less orange than Amber's, and much closer to Mb Golden Yellow. See my bit of writing on the right side of Amber's pic in post #44 above.

Perhaps either batch variation or age of ink? The particular ink bottle I used above is less than a month old.

Yes, Amber's Helianthus does seem more orange than mine too.

Hmm.... I'm going to have to see others. I'll write to you and Halloween with my Helianthus.

Sounds good. I'll reply using the Helianthus I have, and the mix I call "Egg Yolk" —I have the feeling yours may be closer to my yolky concoction...

Thanks be to webgeckos, the Astonishing! Samples of Sailor Honey-Hachimitsu and Sheaffer King's Gold arrived yesterday. Such nice vivid, cheery colors to brighten the later winter days!

The camera is making Honey a touch more orange than it looks to the eye, but the ink is such a beauty!

I thought I wanted King's Gold but when I was sent a bottle I was really under-whelmed. Quite disappointing.

Me too.. I am such a sucker for "gold" inks. My favorites being Kobe 22-Shinkaichi, KWZI Old Gold, and DeAtramentis Gold. In comparison King's Gold looks like flat yellow.

Is a nice yellow, but not what I called "Gold'.. ;)

Understood; this is not a top quality, expensive ink, and it certainly cannot compare to the inks we have now. The real appeal of this ink (at least for me) is mainly nostalgic —I remember the cheap cartridges from years ago, when there weren't a lot of color options, and this was such a stunningly different choice back then.

For me it is still a stunning color and a great Yellow... just not really a "Gold" ink... ;)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
