Yeowch! Not enough change in the couch cushions for that! Sigh...

Couldn't have put it any better myself.

Teasing us with that nib as well ...

Maybe we should loose the Holy Hand Grenade?

From the number of times that Truffle has said he found this or that buried or forgotten, I imagine his workroom to have the Tardis effect - much larger on the inside than the outer dimensions should allow.

Indeed....a whole universe within itself.... :P

Room in the loft! You are quite correct, there is an amazing amount of room for 'stuff' in my workshop! Only a couple of weeks ago, I was looking through some storage boxes near to where I sit at the work-bench, and discovered a load of vintage fountain pens which I had obviously put there with the intention of restoring them 'sometime in the future!' ...........but never got round to it!!!

I decided to repair and restore a few of them, and am continuing to do some more every now and then, but I can well see them sitting around until I'm in semi-retirement!

But it is always great to discover something that has languished around somewhere until you have forgotten all about it and then when you are looking for something else, you 're-discover' it!

I had an unexpected surprise yesterday at my stand at Portobello.

The current Editor of the Pennant Magazine arrived, and we 'chewed the fat' for some time, before he suddenly realised that he had indeed 'heard of Henry Simpole!' and remarked about this thread on FPN! [i can only assume that he wasn't aware that I would be there at Portobello, when he decided to come up there looking for his 'collectables', namely Propelling Pencils!]

Anyway, I showed him some of my more recent pen purchases destined for my pension scheme folder, which I had with me, and he took some photographs, [which he said he would post on this thread, at some point]. He absolutely loved the little Doll's House Watermans Pen!!!

It was really a great pleasure to have met him, and you never know, maybe he might write something about meeting me in the next issue of the magazine!

It's a shame that this thread seems to have dwindled for the last week or so.

I was up and about earlier than usual this morning, [by about an hour] so I thought that I would write something down, [if only to put the thread back on the first page!]

I must say, it is always nice, getting up really early in the morning, the quiet is lovely, no phones ringing, no cars driving by, just the dawn chorus of the birds singing outside the window, it makes me feel at peace with the world!

Anyway, back to reality. the weather forecast has only talked about the occasional 'patchy' rain, and it does seem to be a bit cold, but hopefully it will warm up later. The 'Tube' is running alright [thankfully!] so the journey today should be trouble-free.

Everything you said about getting up early. Plus a large Gordon Setter for me who does it each day regardless of the weather. But we do enjoy our morning walks alone in the peace and quiet (except for the bird chorus). Hope you have a worthwhile day today,

Glad to see that someone else feels the same way that I do, early in the morning, Postscript!

Sadly yesterday turned out to have been a bit of a damp squib, I did sell a couple of pens, but then a boxed and 'mint' Parker 75 pen and ballpoint set turned up, and I decided that I couldn't turn it down, so the money that I had made earlier, went fairly quickly!

I did pick up a couple of lots of repairs, so they will keep me busy over the next few days.

I received an E-mail yesterday, from a lady from Israel, who will be over here in London, for both the 16th, and the 23rd of May, and she is hoping to see me up at Portobello, one one or both of those dates!

She collects Parker Vacumatics, including Parker 51's with double tassies, which is quite fortunate, as I have three in my stock at the moment!

Seeing as things have been a little bit sparse over the last few weeks, it is nice to have something to look forward to!

About a year ago, I was contacted by a gentleman who asked me if I would undertake the restoration of some 1,000 fountain pens which his father had collected over the previous 25-30 years! They had suffered from water damage due basically from being stored in an unsuitable place!

Anyway, I went to the gentleman's home, and saw the pens, [well, most of them!] and basically suggested that they would need to be sorted out, and then sent to me, so that I would be able to do the work on them.

I didn't hear anything from the family, until last night, when an E-mail arrived asking me if I was still interested in doing the work for them. I spoke to the gentleman this morning, and it looks as though things are at last moving in the right direction.

So, that should keep me busy for a little while!

I will keep you posted on progress as things happen.

PS. There's nothing predictable about the Pen Business, except that it is totally unpredictable!!! :) :excl:

Esterbex!

Are you referring to the old gentleman who owns the damaged pens which are in need of the restoration? Or me!!!?

Here's a teaser for you all... a new collection of Simpoles coming soon! Each barrel design features a delightful little faerie within the vines and leaves, some are very obvious, some a little harder to spot.

Perhaps Henry can tell us more about his inspiration for these designs.
