Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Yama-budo is wonderful. The scan doesn't show the really lovely sheen on this paper, but trust me, it's nice.

I only have a few of the pinky inks. Or are they violet? I have a difficult time trying to find the right category...

WOW, that's really pretty. Much prettier than the one I bought.

I just now noticed a warning on the side of my bottles of J. Herbin ink: "Ne jamais mélenger deux encres différentes." That is, "Never mix two different inks." Ooooops. Guilty. ;)

Saguaro wine really looks like Cactus Fruit eel to me.

Don't have any Cactus Fruit Eel, so I can't compare. Another day, perhaps. :)

I think some folks might put Black Swan in Australian Roses here in the Pink thread, so voilà!

A new ink arrived today (I know, I know --I'm out of control...): Heather Violet made by de Atramentis.

Looking good. I expected Heather Violet to be grayer and not pink.

Exactly! Like a light dusty mauve. But no. Oh well. It is truly the color of heather. But is that what I wanted? ;)

Rouge Opera J Herbin. Far more magenta looking than this bright red tone shown here (iPhone 4). Tried altering it with a basic program but it didn't want to play. Imagine replacing the orange that's come through with magenta. No orange in it whatsoever.

This is an edit to my post above seeing as how it's about thoughts (I'm still new!).

J Herbin Rouge Opera looks great out of a wet set pen like my Noodler's Konrad, however is considerably paler in a Lamy doing cursive as the shading isn't evident at all. Love it on Ivory coloured stock in particular with the Konrad. I'll only be using it as a shading ink from now on as wasn't keen on the lack of saturation out of a Lamy. I'm liking it for thank you notes for my female friends. It was the second bottled ink I purchased as I'd been seeking a 'pink' that was mid-range in depth with red-pink tones (no orange pink nor hot pink) and had a bit of character.

It flows exceptionally well from my Dayacom M nib (same nib width as my Lamy F), wet out of my Lamy's F and M, and the Konrad handles it fine. Having said that, yesterday I fiddled with the Konrad to make the flow a little less wet as a matter of preference to get more shading effects.

I just inked up with a sample from my buddy Steve, and he couldn't recall if it were Rouge Opera or Edelstein Turmaline. I'm thinking JHRO.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
