Yep, that should also go in Golds.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Hello

Here are my four inks:

1. Montblanc 90th permanent grey. A wet ink with brown undertones. Sets twice more time to dry thanLexington grey.

2. Noodler's Lexington grey. Drier than Montblanc 90th. Same colour as Montblanc 90th grey.

3. Montblanc Oyster grey. A light silvery grey.

4. Graf von Faber.Castell stone grey. Dark neutral grey, without brown, green or other tones.

Wow, that's not a very blue black is it? That's Monteverde Blue Black. The Rubinato has some sepia tones. Did you smell the sandalwood scent?

Sadly no. Perhaps I diluted it too much. A dark gray that does have a soft, subtle scent is de Atramentis' Frankincense:

Jean, if I didn't say it before... WOW ... Thank you for the contribution!

Halloween, I need to upload De Atramentis Cinnamon which is strangely a gray ink. It does however, smell like cinnamon.

Oooh, sounds like I'd love it. Don't love gray, but I do love cinnamon!

  • 1 year later...

I'm becoming fascinated by greys, a 'colour' that I've long neglected. I love that there is such a wide range of shades.

Here are just a few of my grey inks. My favourites of this batch are Oster Purple Rock (writes grey, washes to purple) and Pen & Message Fuyugare (the most neutral grey). My least favourite is Kaweco Smokey Grey (it's so weak it looks like dirty water).

It may well have been you and your acquiring Kobe Museum Grey for me all those years ago that started me on my grey quest.

My grey trail ended with Lexington Grey and is no where near as extensive as yours. Loving how you've managed a grey rainbow !

Thanks for sharing.

I'm too embarrassed to admit to the total of my grey ink hoard :-/

I still love that Kobe Museum Grey. Lexington I'm not so fond of, but I can see why many like it :-)

OMAS Grey, with three blacks for comparison.

The scan turned out a bit warmer than in real life, but the OMAS Grey is indeed a warm grey ink.

I find Fuyu-gare a bit on the green side. Diamine Grey is more like a neutral grey to me. Of course YPMV (your perception may vary).

I agree Fuyugare isn't *the* most neutral grey of all greys; it is the most neutral of the particular batch of inks I included in my photo. I have several greys that are less blue/green/brown than those. I don't use Diamine Grey as it fades too much.

I also love Purple Rock and find that it writes purple under many conditions.

Never thought I'd use a grey ink, but Verdigris changed that, and it looks nice next to any of my other inks. Souten is coming out too dark from a Platinum Cool but the rest seem accurate.

I forgot we have a separate Grey/Gray thread. Here's Rohrer & Klingner SketchINK - Thea, that I posted over in the black thread. Tomoe River paper.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
