Bring all the cash you believe you want to spend and leave your atm card at home . . .

(well, that's my plan for my local show, we'll see how well it works)

Even if you can't attend you can always phone in a nice order...........(they sure had some good looking Conway Stewart pens in the Classifieds.)...........I'm just sayin'...... no reason to feel "left out!"

Any pictures?

Is it fair for an intelligent and family oriented mammal to be separated from his/her family and spend his/her life starved in a concrete jail?

The Arkansas Pen Show was this weekend and I had a blast. We had great traffic through the door. I was so busy meeting new friends and talked with so many people that I didn’t even think about using the bathroom. I had such a great time.

Things started nice and easy Friday morning at 10. I started setting up at around 9:30am, nervous of course. For some reason I always am at the beginning of things like this. That all went away as soon as I started talking and visiting with everybody. Sam and Frank from Pendemonium were there. Kathy and her husband from Oklahoma. Franklin Christoph was there! Henry Simpole! Danny Fudge was there working on pens. Lisa Vanness and her crew were there! Joel Hamilton, Sam Highsmith, so many others. I wish I had a chance to visit with everybody a bit more, but it really was that busy. I had such a great weekend.

Friday night the Arkansas Pen Club fed us all dinner, pizza from Iriana’s in downtown Little Rock, and my sister made and brought a fountain pen cake for us all to enjoy! It was really great!

Saturday was incredibly busy as well. I had such a great time, I just can’t say it enough. If you didn’t get to come this year, you’ve got to come next year. At around 2pm we had a live string band play for us. It warmed the room up and was just so wonderful to listen to.

There were door prizes given out every hour or two, and I won a Sheaffer Prelude Snow Pen! So cool! I can’t believe I keep winning things at the shows. You have to be there to win though.

And of course, two of my favorite people in the whole pen world, Mike and Lisa from Vanness. I think something about me just brings out the weird in people. ;)

Most of these photos (the ones that are nice and clear and mostly well composed) are from different pen friends who were working the show.

Well, I'm sorry to say that I missed the show after all. Had every intention of going, but a nasty winter weather storm kept me snowbound at home. Special thanks to Mike from Vanness for hunting for a couple of pens for me, even though the search came up empty. I reckon that just means I'll have extra money to spend at next year's event!

Thanks for posting the pictures of the pen show!

It was fun to be included although the Vannesses did include me by shipping an order of 7 bottles of ink that arrived @ my house on Saturday so I felt almost like I was there. I am amazed & appreciative that they would get an order out in what had to be a VERY busy week preceding their show. BUT I guess that is why they are considered a FAVORITE dealer by many. I know they certainly deserve that title when they have made so many unique inks available to me besides a pretty fine out of production Sheaffer Legacy II that they "just happened to find a STUB nib for & kindly installed for me.

They are definitely MY favorite. :) I have one a Legacy as well. Though mine has a nice medium in it. I may have to dig around and hope I can find a black one with a stub. :)

So glad to hear the show went well. Hope to be able to attend myself next year. I'm going to try to make it to DC and Dallas this year.

Great Show this year! Thanks to the Arkansas Pen club for all their work and hospitality. They always go above and beyond making it a clean, welcoming and classy show. It is a joy to see old friends and to make new ones. Way to go Arkansas guys and gals!

The following update was distributed by Arkansas Pen Club president, Andrew McCauley:

***********************************************************************************************************

Attendance for this years show topped at about 400 people attending, compared to last year where it was less than 300 people. If you weren't able to make it to the show, several of us used instagram #arpenshow2015 where we post over 150 photos of the weekend.

Below is a thank-you card from a young girl that was at the show with her grandmother. The pen club provided to her, her first fountain pen and the first thing she did with it was this card. Danny Harris at or Testing table help her out, gave her a few tips and made sure the pen was filled for her.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
