Just wanted to share an excellent customer-service experience I had with Baron Fig. I ordered a limited-edition journal and some pocket notebooks. Everything arrived quickly and well-packaged, but the journal had dot-grid paper rather than the blank paper I ordered. I sent an e-mail from the company's website about the issue, and they e-mailed back right away, apologizing, telling me to keep the wrong journal and saying they would send a replacement by priority mail. Two days later, a package arrived with the correct journal, some extra pocket notebooks and a handwritten note of apology. Mistakes happen, of course, but Baron Fig went above and beyond the call of duty to make everything right.

 

No affiliation to Baron Fig, just a very happy first-time customer.

Interesting. I wasn't familiar with this brand. What are the size(s) available and how many pages are in these? It was a bit hard to figure out from the website. Are they only available from the website, or are there retail markets? And of course the number one question is: how FP friendly is the paper?

I have had very good experiences with this company. They are very responsive and make a nice product in my experience.

PELIKAN - Too many birds in the flock to count. My pen chest has proven to be a most fertile breeding ground.

It is a little hard to find the information on the baronfig.com website, I agree. I had to click through to the shop to find that the Cofidant notebook is 5.4 inches by 7.7 inches, and has a 192 pages. Basically you have to click through as if you're buying each item to find the details.

 

As far as I know, they sell only through their own website for now. I have yet to use mine, so I can't speak to their fountain-pen friendliness yet. Maybe sargetalon can? Or someone else?

I currently use three different pocket notebooks...Field Notes, Nock Dot-Dash and Baron Fig. Of the three, Baron Fig is the only one that has been completely FP friendly, even with my broadest nibs and wettest writers. Highly recommend.

Interesting, my experience with one of their early batches was the opposite. It was fine with drier/finer nibs but showed significant feathering with wet/wide nibs, especially (vintage) flex nibs.

My experience was with their second edition...the Time Traveler. I haven't used any other editions. Used my KK Ink with B nib and Baystate Blue ink today with no feathering or show thru.

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
