Can't reach the Pentrace board this afternoon. Stylophilles message board., which is on the same server, is also not working. Anyone else having trouble?

Indeed! And the original Pentrace Home Page was also left in suspended animation for seven years (or perhaps eight)!!!

Len Provisor and I (co-admins) worked for a couple of months to save the contents, since we knew that original website was going away, but we did not know when. We actually managed to mirror the original website just in time. All this has been done with the blessing of Donal Higgins, the originator of Pentrace. He started the forum back in the year 2000! Years ago, it was Pentrace and The Fountain Pen Network (and the now defunct alt.collecting.pens-pencils newsgroup) that helped the pen collecting hobby grow into what it is today. I still miss the newsgroup and the lively debates it hosted! Let's hope both Forums can continue to grow and function for many years in the future.

Hi,

There used to be Rambling Snail as well before Fountain Pen Network. I joined Rambling Snail first before joining Pentrace. I've actually been unable to log into Pentrace for the past few years. My password and username just don't work.

Stolen: Aurora Optima Demonstrator Red ends Medium nib. Serial number 1216 and Aurora 98 Cartridge/Converter Black bark finish (Archivi Storici) with gold cap. Reward if found. Please contact me if you have seen these pens.

Please send vial orders and other messages to fpninkvials funny-round-mark-thing gmail strange-mark-thing com. My shop is open once again if you need help with your pen.

Will someone with the name of "Jay" who emailed me through the email system provide me an email address? There was no email address provided, so I can't write back.

Thanks Giovanni! I do quietly visit weekly, (no photos to share at this time), and saw the post, capturing a new link before it changed.

Also was glad to see your contact to receive repair on on your box contact damaged pen is being taken care of... Never hurts to politely but firmly inquire. And certainly adds positive spin for future pen purchase consideration.

All the best. p2p

I have several of the old Pentrace articles bookmarked, so I'm happy they were able to be saved. I was trying to access one just the other day, in fact!

You may have to bookmark them again, as we are now on a new server. The old Pentrace was pulled by its server. It is defunct. We saved the content just in time. The new address is www.newpentrace.net The bookmarks should work if you use newpentrace where pentrace used to be...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
