This neon yellow Safari with a 1.5mm nib.

Edited for this comment: did not take the photo sideways! The notebook came from the FPN Cafe Press store.

I'm pretty sure it is gold-plated steel. Nevertheless, I will check that as soon as the pen became empty. I will also check both Lamy 27-30 and 27e.

Here some photos of the nibs. The ones for the 27's are gold (marked with 585). The one for the ratio 57 is not marked and is gold-plated (even not being attracted by a magnet, should be made of some kind of non-magnetic alloy but bot ordinary steel).

Good stuff - thank you for the info. Some day I might get around to posting some generic info I have accumulated on the Ratio line (though I strongly suspect there are others here with more knowledge on them than I).

I'm using my first Safari (I have a Joy and 2 Al-Stars and gave away a 2000.) I don't like the top of the Safari in terms of design, but I love the way it writes. The pencil that came with is wonderful. Fine point. Seems finer than the Al-Star for some reason. I'm using the cartridge that came with it, but will refill it with a converter later.

I currently use four Lamy Pens. They are all Safaris.

In the Blue one I use Noodler's Baystate Blue ink, a Red Pen with Noodler's Empire Red, a Charcoal Pen with Noddler's Heart of Darkness, and a yellow Pen that was a special edition with Noodler's Rome Burning. I use these four pens daily and would not trade them for anything. All have medium nibs in them.

I love the Noodler's ink in these pens. The inks flow smoother and covers better than even the Lamy inks that I have tried. Baystate Blue has been by far the best ink to use in these pens.

Grabbed a Lamy 2000 with a fine nib at the end of January, and ordered a blue Safari (M) and Vista (F) that just came this week. My Lepe of Lamys is growing...

(And technically I did use all of these today, although typically only the 2000 and the charcoal Safari go to work with me everyday; sometimes the pencil does as well.)

Lamy Safari in glossy black with an EF nib

Lamy 2000 EF with Lamy's green ink (which is quickly becoming my favourite green ink!)

Lamy Safari in apple green (the internet tells me this is actually a 2014 release because it has a black cap?) with a M nib that I'm trying to break in.

Just got a Al-Star (graphite) as a knock-about pen that i can lend to people and am enjoying it with Noodler's Lexington (grey). It will stay at work, and the idea is to always have something dark in it.

A red Lamy Safari....if I get off this forum!

"But it is the same with humanity as with the tree. The more he seeks to rise into the height and light, the more vigorously do his roots struggle earthward, downward, into the dark and deep – into the evil." - Nietzsche, Friedrich Wilhelm. Thus Spoke Zarathustra.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
