Lamy Nexx - Citron cap and a medium nib. Lamy blue cartridge.

As an aside, in more than 40 years of using Lamy pens, I've never had a bad nib of out the box or pack. (The same comment can be made in respect of only Montblanc and Pilot). That said, 95% of my Lamy pens were bought in shops in Germany and tested. I think that the factory nibs (especially the Z50 ones) may have become more consistent these days as they are machine made.

Lamy Safari, Ocean Blue. I’m not happy with the fact that ocean blue looks so much better on the website but it’s not that good looking in reality. Though I am considering to change from rollerball pens to fountain pens. But if you’re looking to try rollerball pens, I’d say it is smooth but you might get some ink stains on your hands and they are really hard to rub off. And at some certain angle, the pen doesn’t provide enough ink. So I suggest you to try for yourself first

EF nibs!!!

I havent seen this variety in the stores. Are they on sale currently?  I like the colour and the fact that the paper clip is not silver. I also notice that the o-ring is not black. With these items blended in like this, the design is even more attractive.

As I expressed in another thread here, I am a safari lover, with the exception of the monster paperclip. I mainly like the design for its practicality and functionality; but this version gets 100% all round from me!

Today I am using a terracotta Studio (M) filled with Skrip Peacock (thanks @inkstainedruth for the generous sample!)

I very much enjoy the looks of the Studio, the weight, and the balance, both posted and unposted. Of course the Studio also sports the predictable, reliable, and easy to quickly swap Z5(x) nibs.  As a result, my stable of Studios has grown to five specimens, and they all get used regularly.

I am considering adding a sixth, the latest LE color Black Forest, not because I particularly like the color (I’d like to find a nice red one), but for sentimental reasons (from our house in the middle of the Upper Rhine Basin, we have a lovely view of a bit of the Black Forest).

What I dislike about my Studios is the steady failure of the caps to remain tight and sealed with extended use cycles (the plastic cap liners seem to creep/wear significantly over time). Metal slip caps seem to be in general a challenge. Also the Studio clips are very cool-looking, but their single-point-contact design makes them less effective than they could be.

I bought this online from the PenStore in Stockholm earlier this year.  It was one of last year’s special editions.  They still have some, but many stockists are out.  Check this link https://penstore.fi/fi/lamy/safari-täytekynä-candy-mango. The site I use is in Finnish, but you can change the language to English, I believe.

I also bought the matching ink cartridges, but they are becoming very scarce.  The PenStore no longer have any, but I’ve seen some  on Amazon Germany.

EDIT: I found some stock of the pens at Penworld in Germany, I thought they might be more convenient for you.

I used the new birthday gift Safari in what is called Terre-Red, but is Terracotta to me. I got mine with a 1.1mm italic nib. I put De Atramentis Autumn scented ink in it, which was another gift. De Atramentis calls the ink brown, but it is a very good match to the pen.

The past few days I've been writing out a Lamy Safari Savannah that was filled with Diamine Salamander. Today was the last so it will be cleaned and put away for the summer. (It's just too hot and dry here for Safaris and Al-stars to stay inked - they're my Winter pens.)

Next... ditto... is a Lamy Al-star Black Purple which is inked with Van Dieman's Sweet Fig.

Will work for pens...

I got that pen for my birthday as well as @AmandaW  I wish I could be as good as you, and clean pens right away. I have a small sack filled with pens needing cleaning.

Ha ha!!  If it was the AmandaW pen cleaning services. I keep hoping I’ll get my pens needing cleaning cleaned, and the number of pens filled with ink down to 10. I need the follow through.

Wow, mazinger55.  That is, um, bright.... :o

For me today, it's been the Vibrant Pink al-Star, 1.1 mm stub nib, with MB Permanent Blue-Black.  Still trying to determine whether or not it's an IG ink, but thinking not because I'm not seeing any oxidation color shifts.

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

Love that lamy al star vibrant pink. Blue-black ink is perfect for all this powerful pink radiate from your pen.  I use a lot  MB permanent blue and MB permanent black  with pelikan models like m800 and this two inks are not  iron-gal, it uses pigments;  probably MB Blue-black it uses too.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
