Inky T O D - Color Swatches - Green - Please Post Your Pictures And Tell Us Your Thoughts

. . . . and here's a summary history to show how I got here (written in the four finalists - to present each of these in their own color would be quite a labor!).

Honorable mentions in the Stone Green category to De Atramentis' Cement (=Charles Dickens) and J. Herbin Vert Empire.

New additions in the Earth Green category (my favorite!) are Rikyu Cha and Stipula Calamo Verde Muschiato, both of which give an initial impression of magnificence, but neither of which have pushed Jean Jaques of his podium just yet!

If it helps someone spend a bit less money than I have narrowing down their choices then I'm happy to be of help!
This morning I noodled my top three Stone Greens for another thread, but I might as well add them here too?

. . . . and here's some earthy ones:

(I've subsequently added Stipula Calamo Verde Muschiato, which is quite gorgeous on the yellower end)

Murky greens, dark greens, earthy greens, stone greens, I absolutely adore greens with character. Just cannot get enough of them. Here are some swabs from the samples collection! Sailor Jentle/Kobe are obviously the gold standard in this realm, but Robert Oster makes some dynamite inks that blur the lines between green and brown, too.

Ravishing stuff Viva!
Greens is an endless world for me. Other colors I can pin down a reliable constant companion, but with greens I usually have a wide range in use at any one time, and am constantly rotating options. I love how they play together, and how they play with other colors*!
I have many of these already, but that Giwa looks gorgeous, and I have a feeling I might just need to try everything from KWZ with "gold" in the title (especially the three IG options).

Have you tried Kobe #49? The first ink I have taken to carrying with me everyday (it's drab, but it sets off everything else!). . . . . . or Birmingham's Arugula??

*The other day I was playing with violets, and I find I prefer them in conjunction with greens!
Here's some greens with violets . . . and with reds!

Three greens murky enough to be classified brown, maybe. Rhodia Ice paper, glass dip pen.

Hmm. Snapped this for my Waterman Harmonious Green review thread. May as well include it here too. Please excuse the three teals. Also, is it just me, or is green the hardest color to photograph? It never looks quite right.

Very nice.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I think Green Golds belong with Green rather than Gold? . . . or is it "Murky"?
Anyway, I have enough and like enough Green Golds that I have decided to order a designated pen to carry them. I wrote about this yesterday over in Browns, where I decided to split my colors under the banners: Taupe, Green-Gold, Greenish Browns, Earthy Greens and Browns. Phew!

So today I took a sample from each ink that might come under the "Green-Gold" banner. What I find is this is a super tricky color area to document. The Scanner throws everything one way, the camera another and neither look much like what my eyes see! If I can find a better method I'll make adjustments!
Here's the scan:

. . . . and just for the shocking contrast - here's a phone pic (taken in natural light):

If I edit, it's for quality control!

Prettiest Green-gold I ever had was Organics Studio Willow Green. Such a lovely (or is that rotten?) color, but unfortunately my bottle was a bit too 'organic' for safe FP use. Filtered and dilute with Smirnoff, it's now reserved for dip-pen only.

Not only self-isolating during Spring Break, but today (most of this week in fact) in Los Angeles it is raining!
A perfect opportunity to seperate my "Greenish Browns" (file under "Brown") from my "Earthy Greens" (file under Green!).
Oh how subtle my vocabulary is becoming!!

A range somewhere between Olive and Army?

For those who like olives, here's three from De Atramentis. One is Olive Green, one is Bahama brown and the third, mysteriously enough, Sahara Grey - but they seem more like variations on a theme than different colors to me? Which flavor would you prefer?

If you enjoy olive green, a very bright and gleeful one is Herbin Vert Olive. It never fails to cheer me up.

Now that is an olive with pep!
Mine look so dull in comparison . . . but I find that, for daily writing, dull is not a bad thing (as long as it's not monotonous, and there's plenty of space for highlights!)

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
