Isn't that the oddest thing? Suddenly you play with an ink and it speaks to you, and it's the one you've been looking for for a long time? Crazy, right? :)

Yes I love it when that happens! I found my perfects in a couple couples (thanks to samples!), but am still looking for a orange, blue, and red. Edited by musicman123

Are you loving for the other colors or looking? (After all, your cat tried to seduce me today).

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Looking! And fixed on my post! I didn't intend for my profile picture to be that. It just happened. I may switch it back to the seduction cat soon! :)

A very interesting orange comparison: I've heard the (silly, IMHO) talk that "Akkerman inks are just repackaged Diamine." Not so.

In a dip pen, Diamine's Pumpkin looks identical to Akkerman's Oranje Boven, but the Q-Tip swab washes are totally different.

See for yourselves:

I love Orange inks.

BTW, the chromatography shows these to be similar, but they could have an additive that makes them different.

Interesting idea. I hadn't thought of that. Good point.

The scans make these look retina searing. They are not.

Handsome inks —based on the scan. My kinds of colors, too. I do love that red-orange range, but not as much the "circus peanut" bright orange.

Thanks for the comparo-view.

Duking it out tonight: Diamine's Gerbera and Pumpkin. May the best orange win...

Gerbera is slightly richer and darker, while Pumpkin brighter and lighter (in my opinion).

Wow, they don't look that different on the scan.

I know what you mean! On the page, the two colors are noticeably different, but the scan sort of evened them out. I wonder if that's part of the scanner design —leveling out the variations? Hmmmm...

That could be. The Gerbera is also a tad shady and that doesn't show in the scan.

Not exactly orange, but not exactly brown either. So I posted to both TODs. The exquisite Brandy Dazzle brought to you by Diamine Shimmertastic Inks!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
