Depends on the pen and depends on the paper. To me, it's a very dusty purple. Celebrating the variations!

Just did a fill of PdL last week... mine's now looking brown!

My bottle could be an early batch.

Jep! This is exactly what I love: Variations! ... Communication between writer, weather, ink, nib pen and paper!

I like L'Amant. I was offered a bottle of it and instead requested a neon green. I regret that choice.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

L'Amant is my favorite purple right now. It leans to the red side, but the blue side is visible, too. Love the complexity.

Ah, the quiet desperation of finding the right color. I have my mind's eye, as always, but I can't quite translate it. http://www.colourlovers.com/img/8D02B3/130/110/Saints_Purple.png?ic=1

Roughly that- it's Saints purple from the Saint's Row games. As odd as it sounds, the Saints have gotten me through some tough times, and I'd like a match to it. There used to be a site online where you could input a hex or pantone color and it would find the closest ink to it, but I can't find the bloody thing again.

The color posted (as it appears on my monitor) reminds me very much of Monteverde Purple:

Close? Or not at all? :)

Not bad, not bad at all! It's complicated by the games using slightly different shades at times, the only constant is purple. As weird as it may sound, those games (particularly installments 3 and 4) have helped me through some depressive episodes.

Monteverde Mulberry Noir. I sampled this ink while I was at the LA Pen Show. I volunteered to help Amberlea Davis as a facilitator during her talk about pen and ink, and how to find a combination that suits your personality. There were five Monteverde pens, with different nibs each, all filled with this ink for the audience to try and compare.

Mulberry Noir is a really deep dark purple. It has some green sheen in this sample on Clairefontaine. I like it.

I LOVE this ink. It appears lighter in the swab, in the finer nibs, you can pretend that it is black because it lovely and dark. I think it is more blue than purple, but it is a wonderful blurple.

This is my card entry for Diamine Imperial Purple. Many thanks to my pen pal for sending me a cartridge!

Pen is Jinhao 992, paper is Rhodia pad 80g/m.

Diamine Imperial Purple is a dark purple. It's a wet, lubricating ink as is per usual with Diamine inks, at least the standard line. It bleeds through cheap notebooks such as Pigna and Blasetti, but it's wonderfully well-behaved with Fabriano, Rhodia and Clairefontaine. Just don't expect any sheen on Fabriano. Rhodia and Clairefontaine show it off nicely though.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
