Not obnoxiously so, either. That is good for pinks. :D

Well, if I had to pick, the Claret would be my #1, followed closely by Bordeaux. The Burgundy comes in 3rd --it's too violet/pink to be a favorite...

Any cheaper alternative (just for writing definitons and underlining, i don't need shading and these are not super available) ?

(I'm afraid about bleed/feather of Monaco Red)

How about the Waterman?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

How about the Waterman?

I am afraid that it would be too close to skrip red (that I don't really like), I looked for a darker all-round performer and I am currently very tempted by PR Fiesta Red,

What do you think about it ?

Thank you

Halloween has tried it more recently. I was ho hum about the PR, because it was dry. Let us hear from Halloween.

I have tried the PR Dakota Red, and had terrible problems with large chunks of gunk in the ink. I had to return two different bottles. Don't know if Fiesta Red would be better, but it's a gamble.

For darker reds, I love Akkerman "Rood Haags Pluche" and Diamine Red Dragon (although, again, there can be gunk issues with the latter).

Just my 2¢.

How about a little mixing? In a 5 ml vial put in 4 ml of Skrip red. Add 2 drops of black. Or check out the CYMK threads for ideas. Or maybe a bunch of samples?

I saw that Passion4Pens was down to a few last bottles of de Atramentis "Christmas" scented inks, so I grabbed a couple (OK, 5).

The strange thing is that most of the bottles do not indicate the scent. So except for the "Mulled Wine" and "Marzipan," these are my guesses:

fpn_1423253278__christmas_inks.jpeg

The clear winners are the blue-black spice, the unidentified scent (fresh? poinsettia?) blue with sheen, and the "ginger" scented red. Great colors and pleasant scents.

Good point, I don't know what my red is scented like. The Silver is Cinnamon - go figure.

OK, fountain pen colleagues, here's some co-razy imagery for you. Person number one needs no introduction, and the responder is a devoted fan from Indianapolis...

Next, you'll have to try the vellum --pricey, but dreamy. You'll find out in a few days... ;)

I had some vellum, it just didn't motivate me. I'm looking forward to trying whatever you send.

Being perpetually confused, I am unclear which of the five bottles in the photo is the one labeled Christmas Fresh (?) on the drawing. Not that I'm likely to find any of it, unless someone knows a source. Thanks!

That one is on the far right in the photo. I found a couple of bottles left (on Amazon) at Passion4Pens in Algonquin, Illinois. See if they still have any in stock. Cheers!

I wondered the same thing. I typed such a response but must have forgot to post it.

R&K Helianthus. It's certainly brighter in the scan than on the vellum, but I couldn't balance all the different colors very well. Still, a vivid yellow!

It's hard to get yellow as Vivid has that ... PR Buttercup yellow, is however, a great ink.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
