Thanks, C. I don't see the blurple though? Again probably the image!

Really??... You don't see the blue-purple?... What do you see?

As reference, what I see is that the Colour Royal is the closest to it..

Hmm, ok, hint of purple which does give it a lovely tonality. Really enjoying this set. Have you had a chance to play? Which are you drawn to?

I hedged my bets and ordered a sample, not a bottle, of Regency Blue. And I'm disappointed. I tried this ink with a range of nibs on a variety of papers, and with a couple of exceptions using my Phileas's .7mm cursive italic nib, I couldn't make this ink look indistinguishable from black without writing something next to it in black ink. The photos don't tell the whole story, but here they are.

Now, in fairness, I will say that when I wrote in black ink next to Regency Blue, the black looked black and the Regency Blue looked blue.

But on its own, in good light and bad, CFL, sunlight, LED, whatever, Regency Blue looked black to my eyes. As usual with these things, your mileage may vary.

I cut it with Diamine Sapphire Blue and overdid it (I think the ratio was closer to 3:1, whereas 2:1 would probably have been sufficient), but I managed to bring out the blue.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

I can see this ink looking very dark, blackish, at the broad range of nib sizes. However, your fine nib samples look a lot different than other samples that I have seen posted on fpn. I wonder if it is worth ordering a second sample to see if there is an issue with the sample?

FWIW - I haven't ordered Regency Blue but it does have my interest.

I certainly like the look of the ink in the O.P. It's what prompted me to order the sample. As to there possibly being something wrong with the sample, my dealing with Goulet Pens inclines me to believe it unlikely. Yet I'm also inclined to hope against hope. The next time I place an order I'll get another sample and see what happens.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

Regency Blue is one of the nicest dark blues I've ever seen. It has none of the teal that contaminates so many blue-blacks these days. I will be using it a lot.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. There's just something elegant, classy, rich about it. It's what I'd choose to write a letter to the Queen.

I will bear that in mind if I get a sample

I have just flushed this ink from my Lamy Studio for the first time after approximately four fills since Christmas. It was one of the easiest to clean inks I've ever used especially considering its saturation. (I've been using fountain pens for over 25 years so I've flushed my share of inks).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
