Recommend A Dark Purple

Recommended Posts

I would like a nice, dark, saturated purple, but don't know much about anything other than your blues and blacks.

Does anyone make a purple-black ink? If so, who and is it any good?

Otherwise, what is a nice dark purple?

Thanks,

Tom.

Goulet Pens website has the Swab Shop, which lets you ask for purple and see a bunch of them on screen.

All I've tried that would fill that niche is Diamine Grape, which was very dark. I have a Sailor I haven't tired yet.

Diamine Grape can look quite black at a quick glance, but it shades to a lighter purple.

That looks pretty nice.

In a wet pen, I guess you'd be getting less of the lightish purple, and more or the blackish purple, which is what I'm after.

Noodler's La Reine Mauve is a dark purple that is waterproof/bulletproof.

Alchemist (on this site) makes Purpura Imperialis which is a purple iron gall ink that dries nearly black but can give nice shading.

Private Reserve Ebony Purple would be worth looking at. I bought a sample recently, but am yet to put it to use...

+1 for Ebony Purple. I like neither black nor purple ink but I love Ebony Purple. Go figure!

I find sailor Shigure dries a bit flat. My vote would be for Noodler's La Couleur Royale, deep, dark and rich.

Wouldn't it be great if Nakaya used TWSBI piston fillers instead of Platinum cartridge converters?

I really like Private Reserve Ebony Purple - it looks different in varying kinds of lights. If you don't want a purple that dark try Noodler's Purple Martin.

Diamine Amazing Amethyst is a dark purple that might fit your needs. It has black undertones but maintains the purple color well when dry. Plus it is well behaved insofar as virtually no bleeding and feathering.

Where is the difference between having our arms in possession and under our direction, and having them under the management of Congress? If our defense be the real object of having those arms, in whose hands can they be trusted with more propriety, or equal safety to us, as in our own hands?" Patrick Henry

Diamine Bilberry.

Absolutely...almost like writing with a deep, dark, rich purple velvet

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
