Bleu Myosotis - J. Herbin

When I was indisposed of Myosotis and put Bleu Nuit in, I was disappointed at the weakness of Nuit. On the surface of it I thought Nuit would be the deeper experience on paper.

I resume this topic just to add my comment that, I have been going thorough my blue inks lately, and I also have found that I have different and changing tastes in the colour of my inks.

In general I too like bolder darker blue inks, with less wishy-washy characteristics.

And blue is the colour I use most, especially at work, as I dislike black inks.

I keep a booklet in which whenever I fill up a pen with an ink I write a few lines mentioning the pen the nib and the ink. It is so easy at time not to remember what ink is in one of the several pens I keep inked up, also because most of them are blue inks... This comes in useful for later comparison.

That said, I really like the colour of Myosotis blue, and also the wet flow of most J.Herbin inks I have tried.

It is true that it is a little washed out and unsaturated, but the colour is really nice. Bleu Nuit is somewhat similar in colour and just slightly darker and slightly more saturated, which is a reason I also like this other J.H. blue.

Under direct comparison, same page on the booklet, myosotis is similar in colour, although slightly darker, to Pelikan royal blue... (the latter however has a tendency to fade over time).

When I want a colour similar to the above three but more saturated, my best choice is Aurora blue.

All of the above in my eyes have a slight tendency to purple, which I do like (whilst I know many others dislike). For an even more saturated and slightly more purplish effect my choice is J.H. Eclat de Saphir. My "neutral" blue of choice is Waterman Florida Blue (serenity), which however I find also has a tendecy to fade over time.

Darker blues of choice, Diamine Sargasso sea, nice saturation and lovely red sheen, Diamine Regency, very dark! but still very blue.

I sometimes use Diamine Majestic Blue, very nice saturation, but too much already on the verge of green for my taste...

A more saturated Myosostis would be really nice, though...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
