I like french inks. J. Herbin is good ink maker.

Eclat de Saphir has great name and is well-behaved ink. However I'm not really into similar hues, so I'll leave this one to others :)

Your ink splashes would look great as art posters - imo!

Thanks for the review.

I am really not into purpluish blues... still a GREAT review....

C.

I've thought about getting this ink recently, but purple in blue is bad. Does it have a purplish tinge to it? This review and other samples I've seen show it being just blue - no red or black or purple or other underlying color.

Not sure what you are looking on the screen.... I google sapphire blue.. and this is what I get. The ink above is leaning to purple..

I personally wouldn't buy a teal "sapphire" ;)

I will take your word for it. The work monitor is a very old HP 17'' something I've never heard of. I have to view it DEAD ON to even see stuff in some normal semblance of 'good'. So, I rarely trust any color I see on it. I'll take a look more closely at reviews at home on my much more accurate screen. Thank you!

Great review...I'm not a fan of the ink....but that's okay others love it.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

It's one of the few blues, that I like, it's behaves really well, and easy to clean too. My first worth something blue ink. Currently in use in my Duofold International, with it's medium nib looks really amazing.

This is my favorite ink! I have a calibrated monitor (for Photoshop tomfoolery)—in my experience the Goulet samples are VERY accurate, as are the images posted here in this review.

It IS a very purple-blue when wet, but oddly (fun-ly!) it dries down into a rich blue, with the faintest hint of purple still there, especially noticeable in shading. It is a bit overly-wet in my Pilot Metropolitan Medium-nib; I'm thinking of switching to something with a finer nib—German fine? Japanese fine? German extra fine..?

Purple is my favorite color generally, and some days it's just a "moondust purple" day (or a "tea brown" day), but I LOVE the energy of this ink on the page. When I'm in a writing slump, the vivid blue kind of shocks me mentally, kind of like a creative shot of espresso. I also feel, what with the subtle purple undertones, that it is a subversive blue, that it sneaks into "proper" office settings, boring correspondence, tedious note taking, disguised as a proper blue and then—before anyone suspects anything!—the beguiling purple tint takes hold...

I also wanted to like this ink because of its purple tinge but agree that is very wet. Strangely enough, of all the inks in my collection, the J. Herbin inks are the only ones too wet to use with a J. Herbin dip pen!

I did not only want to like this ink, but actually do like it so much that it has become my standard ink in my standard pen. I emptied one of the new, i.e., smaller Akkerman bottles to fill it up with this ink, because it really is very wet--which is another reason to like it, apart from the colour. It flows out of my Pelikan M30 with its very old OBB nib like there was no tomorrow, so I have to refill the converter quite often.

I notice the purplish aspect sometimes in contrast to other colours on the page (but can't remember which ones right now). In the end, though, when dried, I see the colour as mostly blue and would have to search for the purple.

Iris

My avatar is a painting by Ilya Mashkov (1881-1944): Self-Portrait; 1911, which I photographed in the New Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.

On the otherhand...if you googled the word sapphire and looked at the images (not colours) you'd see a million gemstones that burn with a more violet blue light. Then...I think the name of it would make sense. Of course there is that other little fact that sapphires come in many colours including red, pink, peach, purple and green....but I digress.

Great review :D ...but like some others it's not hitting my colour bliss points.

Just FYI, this ink is also available in a fancier bottle and is called "Louis XIV ink".

I was stupid enough to order 2 bottles from the above seller. I'll change the order. Not going to pay extra for this bottle. It's the same bottle as 1670 anniversary inks with some designer paper wrapped on the sides at the bottom.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.
