I can't believe it's taken me this long to join FPN!

I discovered fountain pens in January 2011, starting with a Pilot 78G purchased from Norman Haase. His kind guidance helped me feel my way into bottled ink, investing in new pens...and now I have over 25 pens, mostly in the sub-$75 range, and I use them every day, have started mixing my own inks on occasion, have filled a tea tin with Goulet ink samples. In other words, I should have been here a long time ago. Glad to be here at last.

I do have a few questions I might as well toss out to start. First of all, are the nibs on the Duke Mako and/or 962 removable? Second, I've had the same paint-flaking issue with my Monteverde Intima Volcano that others have reported here. Has anyone found a way to seal the section where the paint has flaked? I bought my pen over a year ago from Goulet, and while they were concerned when I brought this to their attention, they didn't offer a return or refund, and I hadn't thought to contact Yafa. So now I'm trying to figure out how to make the pen hold together as is. Thanks, and looking forward to lots of conversations.

Oh, time, strength, cash, and patience!

Hi and welcome to FPN

25 pens in just under 4 years is not bad!!

For the nib questions I would advise you to look in either the Chinese subforum, or in Repair Q&A.

I think the Monteverde is a warranty question. How long was it guaranteed? I am not familiar with the US laws on this.

Enjoy the forum

Welcome, MobyProf !

The nib of many modernly produced pens will be removable. Many are friction-fitted. Just because the nib CAN be removed

does not mean it SHOULD be removed. If you compromise the seal, you pen will leak. Is there a problem with your Duke ?

Any manufacture warranty in a product is with the owner. Unless the seller offers warranty, the seller is not involved. Warranty

can be up to two years, or as short as 30 days. 90 days is typical. No harm in contacting the manufacturer. But soon.

What are the other pens you have ?

Auf freiem Grund mit freiem Volke stehn.
Zum Augenblicke dürft ich sagen:
Verweile doch, du bist so schön !

Thanks, everyone! Sasha Royale, I'm interested in removing the Duke nibs for cleaning purposes, but I also dropped the Mako at one point and the flow has been a bit off ever since. I'll check with Yafa about the Intima.

My collection at this point includes 5 Pilot 78Gs (1 w/ ED conversion), a Hero 616, a Lamy Al-Star, a Jinhao Dragon's Offspring, a Jinhao Porcelain Sailboat, a Jinhao Moka, a Bookworm 720, a Noodler's Ahab, 2 Noodler's Konrads, a Nib Creaper, a TWSBI Vac-700, 4 Pilot Metros, several Pilot Petit1s & mini fudes, a Pen & Ink Sketch, 2 Dollar i717s, plus a Lamy Vista that broke (back of the section cracked where the converter attaches). On the higher-ish end, I have a Pilot VP, a Pelikan M400, and a custom-turned cigar pen made by my father-in-law.
