Bleu Nuit - J. Herbin

I like french inks. J. Herbin is good ink maker. Although I don't really like blue/blacks I find Bleu Nuit quite interesting. I won't use it as there's too many inspiring colors to write with, but I can recommend it to anyone who's looking for well behaved dark blue ink.

I think my favorite part about this ink, is that it goes down purple and dries to the dark blue it is. It's also very close to the 1670 bleu ocean ink they make too - at least to me.

Very nice. This and Noodler's Black are my current favorite inks.

And yes, the color transformation during writing from indigo to a dark, dusty blue is quite pleasant.

Nice blue off one of my favourtie ink companies.... Good to hear that it behaves so well...

By the way I refeliid the Cafe des Iles in my Waterman Carene wiht M nib.... This Nib is quite broad and theink flows excellently now.... I guess the marriages of some of Herbin's daughters wiht some of the Lamy's sons aren't always good :-)

Glad to see the Cafe behaves well now..

Tricked throughout the centuries...

Today people get tricked by (neo)capitalism :)

I've tried it multiple times and it just isn't saturated enough for me, but as you can see, some of my dear friends think it is awesome.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thank you for the wide range of inks you have reviewed, and the thorough reviews that you do of each of them.

You have put together quite a body of work!

I don't really get it, but I sort of enjoy this ink.

Nice dark blue black.

J. Herbin Bleu Nuit is actually my least favorite blue-black. I haven't found the pen in my collection that can lay down a Bleu Nuit line that's saturated enough for my taste. I confess I haven't tried them all. I don't need monster saturation in my blue-black ink, but I do want saturation. Platinum Blue-Black and Pilot Blue-Black provide it.

I love the smell of fountain pen ink in the morning.

i realize this is pretty old post but checked it out after getting a bottle of this ink. ( I did read other reviews so it wasn't a shot in the dark) I have been avoiding this standard color for years after using it almost exclusively about 20 years ago. Most recently I have been using a lot of saturated and strong colors from Iroshizuku which i adore. I got a letter from a pen friend using blue black and I really liked the warmth it conveyed. I really like the color and tone of this ink even on the cream colored stationery I used. It does seem dryer than the Iros but otherwise it behaved quite nicely in an M800 fine. I'm pretty stinking happy with it.... and on a related note... the addition of this ink to my very modest collection forced me to get a separate container for my inks and maintenance items... the drawer I was using in my desk was no longer enough. I feel like a big kid now!

This is one of the first inks I ever bought. Never bonded with it. Looked sort of boring to me, with little shading, little saturation. Might have to give it another try.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.
