Sailor Jentle Shigure

Dear FPN Friends.

A little story...

I am Dutchman born in Breda.... Cosiest city of "joie de vivre" (joy of life) in the northern hemishpere....

Just nineteen kilometres away is the Fountain Pen Walhalla better known as La Couronne du Comte.... :notworthy1:

My Girlfriend Sabine and I went to paradise last week to buy some Fountain Pens (Maybe I will do a review soon (Dupont and Edison...).Dennis and Rik gave me/us some nice goodies.... one of those is...

Nice Stuff....Please Compare wiht the Bombproff De Atamentis....Seems like the same colour family

Showthrough and waterproof

http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a617/Morbus_Curiositas/Sailor%20Jentle%20shigure/SailorJentleShigure008bleed_zps5e92678b.jpg

Little but very acceptible showthrough with Medium nib.... Quite strong bleeding with the 2,3 Italic...

But using the 2.3 Italic is like throwing a Molotow cocktail to the paper :wallbash:

Do not know if it survives longer swims... But this looks very legible after 2 minutes in Water

Too Conclude

Very nice and well-behaving ink. It has a nice familiar smell of ink....

Very dark blue.... (PM for a postcard)... Highly saturated (my advise clean your FP more often).

It is one of the deepest and richest dark Blues I have seen sofar....

Very Impressive....

Thanks a lot Arrigato Dennis and Rik :D

Regards

I adore this ink, although it startles me to hear it referred to as a blue-black! Anderson pens and Isellpens.com both carry Sailor Shigure. So does Pen Chalet. Thanks for the review!

Yes I love Shigure too. I think it's more of a blue violet, maybe even into the violet range.

I'm just as startled as you. Shigure is supposed to be and has always been described as a deep purple ink.

Nice Review.

Yeah, Shigure is definitely a dark purple.

(Sorry for the messiness... I love Shigure and use it very often, for anything and everything, so it wasn't hard to find a shot of it in action!)

My only qualms with it are that it's not super water-resistant (not a deal-breaker, but that would have been a nice bonus) and that it can take a long time to dry on some papers. I found I was able to smudge some writing on Rhodia about a half hour after, and this was in an XXF Pelikan nib. Otherwise, it's a wonderful ink that flows well. I have a bottle on its way to me.

How similar is this to Diamine Bilberry?

Cannot help you here.... I do not own the Diamine

  • 3 months later...

Nice review, well its really hard to decide that its a dark blue, or almost dark blue purple. Its have definitely lots of purple in it, more than what you can find in a regular blue, its came out when its get cleaned. No argue, that's a class one ink, as all Sailor. Sailor absolutely placed itself to the highest rank of ink manufacturer. Can't say about their pens, hopefully can about few weeks.

I have used this ink regularly for the past month and it is a very dark purple. In a fine nib it will appear almost black. In a broad wet nib it will show its true color. It us also nicely lubricated.

My sample of Shigure was very purple. Beside PR Tanzanite, the Tanzanite appeared to have no purple at all. Even your photos here appear purple to me.

On second glance they have a bit of purple it depends on the lightfallandthe Nib used...

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
