Heure Doree - L'artisan Pastellier

L'Artisan Pastellier inks don't get much love or attention here. I understand this as they're not easily obtainable. You may buy them directly from the producer's on-line/stationery boutique. The best thing to do is to organiza group buy (I've done it twice last year for polish sountain pen board).

I must admit I'm huge fan of Callifolio series. Soon I'll prepare comparison of all 36 colors but it'll take time.

I really wanted to like Heure Doree, the color is really nice especially when you lay thick layer of ink on the paper. Unhappily this ink has low saturation and some flow issues. A pity. I can't recommend it. Unless you're an artist who actully draws with inks. Then you may consider thias one.

I'm so sorry!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Heure Doree - golden hour in english (sometimes known also as magic hour) - is a period shortly after sunrise or before sunset during which daylight is redder and softer than when the Sun is higher in the sky.

L'Artisan Pastellier's Heure Doree is subdued ink that in most pens will feel dryish and will lack saturation. The color is nice but to really enjoy it and make a maximum of it's shading potential, you'll need so crazily wet flex nib. If you have one this ink may give great results. If, however, you look for everyday ink suitable for most fine/medium nibs this one isn't for you (unless you do like pale colors).

In terms of behavior - it's average (no feathering, no bleedthrough, moderate flow, weak lubrication).

The shading on this looks nice. But the ink overall seems way too light to be legible.

Thanks for the review (and my wallet thanks you even more... ;)).

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."

This is one of the Callifolio inks that I do not care for. Thanks to Vanness Pens, who carries Callifolio inks, I have been able to sample most of the line. There are a few, this one included, which do not resonate with me.

Also - I'm really looking to Namreshnoom's review of this ink :)

Heard you

But first comes Botany Bay - I've been using it regularly the past week or so, and am really liking it. I'll put the review online during the weekend.

Next up will be Heure Dorée - not so sure about this one, not really my kind of colour, but I'll give it an honest try.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
