Here's my currently inked... it's way too much, so once some of these pens run out, they're getting cleaned and put away. Granted, some of these are the free Noodler's eyedropper pens that I like to use for testing out inks, but anyways.

This is turning into a fade test, though a November - January test will be goofy because of how little sunlight we get!

I like that Matsu Green - what is it? Is the last line a black or brown?

I think the last line is Doyou (tinysnail, correct me if I'm wrong).

The green is Tokiwa-matsu.

Both are from Sailor's Four Seasons collection.

Got myself a sample of Noodler's Navy, and I'm really loving the color and shading. I may have to get myself a full bottle of that one. Down below is Noodler's Walnut. There's some nice subtle shading on this as well.

I like the photo. It makes me want to tilt my head, but the angle doesn't get any straighter. :P

Right on both counts! I'm currently in the midst of a passionate love affair with the Four Seasons line of ink. They're so wet and sheeny!

Today's selection floating around on my work desk as it's a quiet morning:

Iroshizuku Ku-jaku - On the fence with this colour, writes beautifully etc etc just feel like it's too green for my liking and I don't see much of the sheen when it's in the Pilot Falcon. I think I want to try Sailor Yama-dori to compare the two and see if it has a stronger sheen.

Iroshizuku Kon-peki - Still running this one in my Vanishing Point, pretty sure at this point they're going to stay as a permanent pairing.

Private Reserve Blue Suede - It's a teal kind of week, I prefer this one over Ku-jaku because it's a little brighter and more saturated and it seems to lay down a wetter line. I have encountered some feathering and bleedthrough issues on cheaper papers though despite using an EF nib.

Diamine Amaranth - This ink is definitely growing on me, I really like how dark it comes out with the 1.1 lamy nib, it looked much weaker in an EF nib. I've even themed my planner pages this week around this colour.

J Herbin Rouge Caroubier - I want to love this ink, it offsets nicely against Amaranth and has a nice pink tinge to it, but it's incredibly dry in an EF nib. Im thinking of adding a little dish soap to the sample to see if it improves it's temperament before writing it off though.

Thank you!

That Blue Suede looks very nice. I've never tried a PR ink before.

Apparently the formulation has changed, how, I'm not sure. The old Blue Suede had amazing shading and a great purpley sheen. Pretty bummed that it's changed, it was one of my first and one of my favourite inks. Hopefully it's just a defect and they'll return to the original formulation soon!

Have it too :) It looks good on that paper. What is it?

Ooh, that Terre de Feu looks so good.... I must not buy more ink, I must not buy more ink...

The paper is from a sketchbook from Daler-Rowney, "Fine Grain-Cartridge".

Thought it looked like a sketching paper -- you should have sketched something! :)

And good luck with that mantra

You got me all intrigued....and it's another quiet morning at work so I dumped some Blue Suede out of my convertor to see how it would dry and you're right there is sheen, but it's much more red than purple and needs a LOT of ink to show up. I will put some in a noodlers flex over the weekend to see if anything eventuates while writing as it certainly doesn't show up using an EF nib even though the line is pretty wet.

Ignore the horrible yellow cast on the image, the ink colour itself is pretty accurate. I tried the same with Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku which you can just see the edge of on the left and I got no sheen out of that which surprised me as I've got a sheen off that when I swabbed it at home.

Wonderful. When did you buy the ink - is it new or old?

I saw that. I added the pens I used in the other thread. I totally forgot I sent that. Was that written on the Neenah Classic Linen paper?

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
