Lierre Sauvage - J. Herbin

Lierre Sauvage was my first green ink. I still like it and use it more or less regularly. The ink isn't extremely saturated but that's fine for me, I like it this way.

If you like green inks you can check my comparison of 48 green inks.

Love that green... sort if medium dark but still vivid

Das leben ist wie ein Perpetuum Mobile mit ein Mangel..... Immer im Bewegung jedoch nicht unendlich. (life is like a troubled Perpetuum Mobile ever moving but not for ever)

Tricked throughout the centuries...

For centuries people had been tricked by kings & "religion-alism"

In the 20th century people got tricked by communism

Today people get tricked by (neo)capitalism :)

Excellent overview of this classic ink (well, for me it's a classic - like you, it's the first green ink I got, and I still like it a lot).

Thanks also for the link to your hugely-informative multi-greens comparison post. One question about those - where can one buy Nicpon inks? I haven't seen them before and didn't find the answer in the comments to your previous post.

(48 Shades of Green. Hmm, perhaps there's a book in there somewhere...)

@stephanos - Nicpon = KWZI. I believe there are some group buys organized on the forum. KWZI is polish ink enthusiast, chemistry PhD student who brews his own inks :)

Thanks for replying so usefully and so quickly! It looks like he has heaps of colours to choose from .

What I like about this Lierre Sauvage is that it is a full GREEN. Not a grey or blue or yellow green it is a GREEN GREEN.

Great review! This might be on the list...Green is my favorite color, so naturally, I will have to get a green ink eventually.

This is a great example of how Lierre Sauvage looks for me. I see a lot of reviews where it's much darker than I get out of any of my pens. It was one of my original ink samples, and I still haven't decided if I want a bottle of it yet.

Thanks for another great review!

So many inks, so little time...

I find it looks much darker when using a free-flowing pen that lays down more ink (I had this in a Noodler's Nib Creaper, for example) - but in a Pilot 78G and a plastic Jinhao 599 (both made of green plastic, of course!), it looks a lot more like this review. It's a very pleasant "true" green (for mine) - though I think I have a marginal preference for Noodler's Green Marine, which is definitely darker!

It's a pleasant and predictable green, and one of my first greens (as well as the deplorable Lamy Green), but not my favorite. However, thanks for the great review.

Got a sample of this ink today together with a green Platinum Preppy 0.3mm. Very, very nice. Usually a page of coloured ink puts me off because it looks too busy, but this is very pleasing to the eye. I'll be using this a lot.

Another great review visvamitra! I have a bottle of this ink and it's my favorite green. It's a nice vibrant, wet green ink.

Currently inked:

- Pilot Custom 743 <M> with Pilot Black

- Pelikan M120 Iconic Blue <B> with Pilot Blue

- Lamy Studio All Black <M> with Pilot Blue-Black

That was a great review of the 47 green inks.

This ink somehow didn't get bought when I was buying 15-17 green inks in a year and a half........no fault of the ink.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Thank you for the great review!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
