Ink Review: Shaeffer Skrip Purple

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

posting my first ink review, I didn't mean to post it at all, made it for my personal reference but realized it could help someone decide (as numerous reviews have helped me), so here it is. I am sure there is room for improvement so feel free to point out what to adjust in the next one. I've got close to 40 inks so I will be posting more as I go through them again. These of course are only my personal findings and may not be as accurate as someone's who's been reviewing ink for a long time. I've only gotten into inks recently even though I've been using fountain pens for years.

This review is on Radece Papir Italia, 80g. The best office paper I've found so far in this part of the world. Excellent for fountain pen inks, very resistant and overall performs very, very well. I've tried quite a number of them by now. I want to stay away from reviewing on Clairfontain or Rhodia simply because I don't use them daily and the ink really won't show its faults as much.

Enjoy!

- Daniel

I was just told that Sheaffer purple looks like the KWZI that I am enjoying... I've never seen Skrip to be this vibrant....

I do see that the colors are in the same family.

Would you say that the Skrip is super vibrant?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Yes it's quite vibrant, for such regular an ink it has much more punch than expected. Reminds me of Iroshizuku inks in its properties.

Never had a KWZI ink so can't really compare, sorry.

Is this the new Slovenian stock, with that new label that has a nib pointing down and no colored label on the lid? I have three Sheaffer inks, two of the previous Slovenian stock that had an inverted label (showing a nib pointing up) and labels on the lids showing the colors, which are Brown and Turquoise, and one of the new stock that is Black. Black is much wetter than these two, it works fine in my Pilot Custom 74 that did not work well with Sheaffer Brown, and Turquoise did not work well flow-wise in 78G's and a Prera.

I believe it is important to differentiate them, because there might be a change in formulas (I read people claiming the older Slovenian stock seemed more washed out than current ones), and I also noticed that Black did not have flow problems as the rest, but it could be just the color, it is not unusual that a same brand has wetter and drier inks, and Pilot's don't like dry inks because they are dry pens.

Thanks for reminding me, I thought I included the description of the bottle, now I see I did not.

Bottle description: nib pointing down on the label, no sticker on the top of the cap, "Slovenia" on the bottom of the bottle.

Thank you.

I was more wondering about the color if the color of the Slovenian Skip inks is super vibrant as opposed to the kind of washed out look that some inks have.

Very good review! Thanks for sharing your views. I was thinking of purchasing this ink. Your review helped a lot.

What a bit of serendipity. I just bought a bottle of Skrip Purple a couple of days ago (there's a local stationery store that carries some expensive pens, and Skrip and Aurora inks). I think it does say Slovenia on the label someplace, but I didn't pay a lot of attention to the label otherwise.

Anyway, I put it in a Snorkel Statesmanwith an EF nib and it works quite well -- no feathering or bleed through, and while on the dry side it still has good flow with that nib (better than Waterman Mysterious Blue, which I had in the pen previously after getting it restored last summer). Not the most saturated, in your face purple I have, but well behaved and has more water resistance than I expected.

Thanks for the review.
