Diamine Recipes?

Sadiq, that looks very close to Iroshizuku Syo-ro! Very nice.

The previous pics were taken with my phone...the colour is actually a deeper version between tsuki-yo & syo-ro. See below (lol I'm rhyming) I scanned this sample...

It's my new everyday go to ink :) I love the colour!

Ahhh, the lure of a dcpritch ink . . . :puddle:

Indeed.

I have a sample of sapphire blue and as soon as I get a ml or two asa blue, I shall try it.

Whenever I've managed to get a sample, I've noticed that frequently what I see on the screen is not what I see on paper, but that's fine as long as I'm aware of it - it just means I have to get more samples :) .

Asphire Blue -- Another contender for 'TPB'* family

Now we are getting somewhere. I had an empty bottle of Tsuki-yo (only the bottle ... I bought a few random empty ones from the Goulets to have something nice to keep my creations in)

I wanted to make something that somewhat matches the label. I might shift the balance a bit towards blue (probably put in a second, darker one, maybe Asa or Majestic), but here is where I am right now:

  • 1x Graphite (it's really nothing but a very dark green black)
  • 1x Mediterranean Blue
  • 1x Distilled Water

This is decent enough that I've put it in a real pen that I'll use tomorrow.

(I have an Ink Drop sample for Diamine Teal ... I put that in there as well for reference)

And here's a fugly one that I shall call "Angry Eggplant". On a related note, I think I've cracked the Diamine creative process(*).

  • Toss a few random dyes in a beaker and dilute as you normally would
  • "Oi, that's a lovely color (sorry, colour :D ) old chap, we should market it right away"
  • "Indeed, indeed. A'ight everyone, gather 'round and name this lovely mix. Hunner quid for the lucky winner"
  • [awkward pause] "Say there, anyone remember wot we've actually put in this one?"

(*) No disrespect. I love those guys. Good color selection, very reliable and affordable ink.

EDIT: Hmm. This had more red in it at the time I made that sample, making it more of a very dark purple than the gray it is now.

I've been playing with this one first of all the above blends I made, so here's a photo.

Sweetgrass:

3 ml Diamine Amber

3 drops Diamine Aqua

Looks kinda like Iroshizuku Ina-ho, but this being said without seeing or using Ina-ho in person. A more bronze-y gold than Amber, which is more orange-tinted. Not my normal color, but it would be nice for artwork. And it definitely looks better in a flex pen or calligraphy nib.

Ooo, just mixed 1 part Diamine Oxblood and 2 parts Diamine Midnight Blue as sort of suggested by JulianN.

Lovely. Looks a lot like Diamine Eclipse.

I'll post a pic tomorrow when there's daylight.

I'll start a google doc and send out edit links to everyone who contributed (basically : author, recipe, notes, linkt to image) and then ask a mod to edit that into the first post (since I can't edit that anymore)

OK, here's a link ... with a twist to foil bots and the suchlike

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1PzoKJTN6VtsFOsagkk5cpvC655opfOwbj1GBTRFztqc/edit?usp=sharing

first of all it's not clickable. Second, I transposed two characters. You'll have to cut and paste and make the change yourself : where it says Pz at the beginning of the hash value ... swap those characters.

I've added everything that was mentioned or linked in the thread so far.

This is an editable link. Add / edit as you like.

Feel free to jazz up the formatting. My idea of a good PowerPoint presentation is a black-on-white bulleted list in uniform font. Same goes for spreadsheets :D

PS: I tested it and the spreadsheet is anonymously editable. Just don't abuse the powah :P

Woot.

Added the little extra blue I felt was missing to my last one and I liked it to so, that I made enough to fill up the empty Tsuki-Yo bottle.

9ml Graphite

11ml Mediterranean Blue

10ml Majestic Blue

15ml Distilled Water

There is a bit of feathering, but I attribute that to the cheap paper. Not really visible with the naked eye, but the scanner brings out every little detail.

Wasn't doing it on Rhodia.

Teallllllll... it calls to me.

I promise to put up more photos of those mixes I made. It's been cloudy and gross outside lately. Not very helpful for photos, doh.

I could easily see this one used in a "serious" setting. (eg, business writing)

Finally, a sunny day! A couple more blends, here.

Matcha:

3 ml Amber

9 drops Aqua

A lighter, bright green, without being too eye searing. Just like matcha tea!

In this photo, you can see how the color compares to the darker, greyer Dappled Fern color I blended. Very different fellows.

And now for my autumn brown!

Chestnut:

6 ml Amber

12 drops Amaranth

9 drops Aqua

5 drops Wild Strawberry

10 drops Quartz

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
