This is perfect tinysnail! Thank you for adding these!

 

I really like the color of Momiji in your scan, so I guess I might have to order a sample after all :doh: Every red I've tried recently that I've liked has taken me forever to clean; how hard is it to clean Momiji out of a pen?

 

No problem! I might be able to compare to Fernambuk tomorrow, since that what Momiji seems to be closest to.

Momiji is wonderful, IMO. It's a really nice pinky/coral/red combination that leans far enough from red for me to really love it. When wet, it looks more pink than it does once it's dried.

 

I can't answer about the cleaning because I have not yet had to clean it out of a pen; this is still my first fill with it, actually! If it's anything like the other Iroshizuku inks I have tried, I expect it to clean out nicely and easily.

I wonder if you have tried Edelstein's Turmaline? That is the deep pink that I tend to use, and it shades very nicely in a vintage flex-nib pen!

Nice review again. I have Solferino, Rose Cyclamen, and Syrah. Planning to buy Yama-budo and Rouge Burgogne. My favorite from this group is Rose Cyclamen, yes, Solferino is bit darker, but I feel Rose Cyclamen is a bit more catchy, and performs similarly even on different paper quality, Solferino can be almost a lighter purple dark on some papers, with a wet enough nib.

I would love to hear about your experience with the cleaning when you do change inks; I'm open to the shade of red as long as it's smooth to write with and not school teacher red or a nightmare to clean! I just tried a sample of the Sailor Jentle Oku-Yama and it's more of a burgundy but has a spectacular gold sheen. It was more difficult to clean out than the other Sailor colors I've been trying over the last couple of weeks (which have been pretty easy), but not too bad, so right now it's one of the finalists. (It came out with just water unlike the Diamine Oxblood that I tried the week before, and which needed several rounds of pen flush.)

It has to be one of the most photogenic inks out there :cloud9:

You made me want to test Yama-Budo again Mishka5050; I had forgotten about it but that gold sheen is a nice contrast to the pink! I just put a blue ink in the pen that I would have tested it in, so I will switch it to Yama-Budo next week!

Thank you for the recommendation HalloweenHJB! I haven't tried it yet, but my sister is actually looking for a new pink, so maybe I will ask her to order the sample this time and I can borrow it from her to see what it looks like :P

Thank you Millefleurs! Rose Cyclamen is one of my three favorites shades of pink from the comparison too so I say give in to temptation and try it :)

Thank you again VivienR! I prefer Rose Cyclamen to Solferino too. Both are too bright for me for note-taking but I really like the color of Rose Cyclamen. It's one of those inks that, as soon as it comes out the pen, immediately transports me back to childhood and I love that effect!

Also, for anyone looking to tame Tsutsuji into something a bit less pink, I've had great luck with mixing it 50/50 with Yama-budo. It's still pink, but not as intensely pink. You could easily use that mix for a whole page without squinting, even if you're sensitive to pink ink.

I can help out :) If only I had my Tsutsuji (sample) and Fernambuk (bottle) in pens right now, else I would add them too. Funny that I have acquired those plus a bottle of Yama-Budo since I last replied to this thread last month!

I love the idea of mixing Tsutsuji and Yama-budo; I'm going to use part of what I have left of the samples to try the mix!

Thank you Anne-Sophie; I'm happy you liked the thread! I have yet to try the Noodler's Saguaro Wine, but I think the picture of Solferino on Rhodia is the one that looks truest to the color of the writing sample on the original page, if that helps to compare the two.

Momiji seems to be close to J. Herbin Rouge Opera. At least for what I have.

I've just bought the Rose Cyclamen and I love it to bits! It's in my Parker 51 Signet with the broad nib and gosh, it's fun.

 

I want to get the R+K Solferino and Fernambuk, but it seems to be difficult getting it in France. Whereas Herbin, of course, is everywhere - well, okay, not everywhere, but I know at least three places I can get it easily.

Too many pens, too little time!

      I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

      I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature.
