Help Identifying 147 Nib

I've been fortunate enough(hopefully) to pick up a 147 is visually good condition for somewhat a reasonable price off eBay.

I'm finding it hard to determine what type of nib its using, I usually use a Lamy 2000 and it writes as thick as the Lamy in an M, I'd assume therefore its a B nib, however the tip is very "square".

Also the nib has a very narrow angle of writing, turn it slightly and it stops, however it does work upside down.

Not sure if this helps, but it appears to be a pre-97 model as theres no pix under the clip but has a ID number (unless of course I've been had and its fake lol)

The challenge with MB nibs is that they are unmarked and there is overlap. I have had M nibs that are easily the size of a B. B nibs tend to be a bit stubbish (though my exposure to B nibs that came directly from MB is limited to just a few). Based on what you are describing, you might have a B or a broad M that someone has tweaked a little. I don't know of a way to find out for sure.

I would also say it's a broad nib. The writing sample looks very good!

I keep thinking about selling some of my pens but all that happens is I keep acquiring more!

Thanks @zaddick and @Mister Mont Blanc, looking at online pictures, it could be a BB as well with the straight cut to the tip, more like a brush.

I was also going to mention it could be a BB but to me, it doesn't look like it's thick enough of a nib. The straight cut edge though is what made me pretty sure it's at least a broad.

I use my 147 a lot as, with the supply of six cartridges in the wallet (and the two in the pen), it covers about all eventualities. Great pen.

We'll the guy at the boutique loved the pen, and he insisted that I leave it for service as its an early 90's pen, wouldn't take no for an answer, said a pen with as smooth a nib as this deserves to be serviced and working as Montblanc intended lol. So I guess I'm not going to see it for another 3 weeks :(

Well I hope it's as quick as possible and that it's worth the wait!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
