Aubergine - De Atarmentis

I like De Atramentis inks, I feel they deserve more attention than they get in the fountain pen community :)On the other hand they're not really cheap.

Anyway Aubergine is really great color.

As you see color difference between Pilot B italics and "regular" nib is quite strong. It's not however difference - the thing is iridium tipped nib leaves stronger, more saturated line with some "mauve" accents and Pilot's italic reverses these proportions paler shade becomes dominant and the stronger tones create shading.

Hi Visamitra...

An excellent job you did on an excellent ink...

I agree thtat De atramentis deserve moe attention. I am helping the uttterly passionate and freindly owner Dr Jansen to do so...

Dr Jansen allowed me to make the 4=3 offer for all FPN members...

Order 4 pay 3 order 8 pay 6 etc etc.

Maybe nice to know you can know order Ink Drops at De Atramentis.... 2 Ml ink tubes for testing.....

May be you can use these.... I will send my adress to you great fellow country man King Konrad for some samples... Will of course test them here.. I will ask him to send me other colours than the one u tested.... So more of his inks get exposed.

I spoke with Dr. Jansen of De Atramentis I will post a comparison of all De Atramentis standard inks soon. Just like Good old cybaea did wiht Diamine.

Good to see your as assionate about inks (and DA) like I am. I simply have a soft spot for the smaller passionat ink companies like De atramentis and the new KWZI...

Thanks a lot Visamitra

Great review, as usually. This one went on my wishlist after the recommend a purple thread, and this moved it up on the list! I'll definitely be picking up a sample whenever I place my next order. It'll actually be my first DeA sample.

So many inks, so little time...

Great review of a really nice color. If you're a fan of purple inks, their Magenta Violet is one of the most vibrant purples I've come across.

Nice colour.

Is this the De Atramentis Puccini Aubergine?

My understanding is it is the same color, just relabeled for their Great Composers series.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
