Using A Stub/italic As A Work / Office Writer?

I've had good results with a Pilot Prera - they're available in 1.1 width and they hold an impressive amount of ink. The nib is crisp but not scratchy, they're easy to find and inexpensive.

I believe the nib on the Prera and Plumix are interchangeable.

I enjoy using stubs to title and section off lists and notes at work.

I use a Pilot Metropolitan with a Pilot Plumix nib on it for phone notes, which is the only hand writing I do at work.

As a daily note taker, I like to use modified cursive italic nibs. I have a VP and a Pelikan 200 with nibs modified by Richard Binder to "less than 0.7", which work very well for note taking. Not too wide that I have to worry about pen position, and I can write rather quickly with a perceived sense of neatness and some "flair".

I also have a Pelikan 120 with an italic nib that probably is less than 0.5, that I love. Small enough that I can fit a decent amount of information on a page in a small journal or pocket notebook, and still have legibility and flair.

On my desk I have TWSBI Diamond 580 with a 1.1 italic nib, which I use for signatures, but honestly I think is too wide for taking notes.

I also have an Ipsilon with a 1.5 italic nib that I consider way too wide.

I use a Parker Sonnet with a factory stub nib in the office, and it is a terrific writer. Not too much line variation, but it lays down a wet line, and is super smooth.

I frequently use various cursive italic nibs at work all are Matsuyama and vary .7 to .9

I wrote a nice reply and now I can't find it on my desk. ARGH, that's why I type. I use mostly stubs in my work.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

My daily writers are all stubs. Currently rotating between Conid Minimalistica with stubbed titanium nib and a TWSBI ECO broad that I stubbed myself.

My preferred nibs are stubs and broads. I use both for work as well as general note taking and journal entries. I carry a journal style notebook with me for all of my notetaking and generally have 3-4 FPs in different colors with me as well, even in C-level meetings. My journal notebook fits inside a brown cowhide zipper cover along with my pens. The cover is a bit unusual and I get lots of comments (compliments mostly) about my journal and pens.

Sorry to get back to this so late. I'll see what I can do. I've actually never posted a picture on the website. Perhaps it's time I learn. I will tell you that it's a very unique stub due to the flexibility of the titanium. I have a couple PB's, Masuyama's, and a couple done by Linda Kennedy. The Conid is unique amongst them..

Good to see such lovely stub samples. I work in the U.K. NHS with limited administration support and I hope that the stub nib enhances my handwritten faxes

I always have a stub (or more likely several stubs) on my desk, I love note-taking with them.

A somewhat related anecdote: in my last year at the university, I wrote all the exams with a 1.1 stub. It was a Telecom Engineering degree, so as you can guess, teachers weren't used to read

exams in cursive handwriting. Several of them complimented me and asked me how I had such a nice writing :D

I would be interested too - but something tells me Bemo's not yet figured out how to post a picture.

When Conid builds the Minimalistica in full demo version I'll not be able to resist any longer & will order a broad stub ( not titanium because I've read that it's soft and flexible ) .

Along with Mr. Pen's Italix nibs, Japanese stubs and music nibs are good value . Engeika has a nib chart & here's an edited version

An interesting post tartuffo thank you.

Since my original post I have acquired a Pilot 912 with a music nib, but it is too broad for me. Your 3776 broad italic looks good :)

Still no CONID having been distracted by other pens. As a last resort there is always the LWES show in October!

I had originally thought that even a 1.1 nib would be too wide. But on further thought, if you write on every other line, leaving a blank line in between, that would give you the space to use a wider nib, and not have it look so jammed/crowded.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
