I have a feeling we have 12 inks on this one

They appear to be named after the months of the year, so I suspect you're right.

The seasonal fruits red colors look a bit light for ink don't you think?

Also, how many of these inks are truly a special variation on a color instead of just custom packaging?

I'm also curious about the latter question too. I like interesting glass bottles as everyone else but I care about the actual inks a bit more.

What about the Iroshi inks by Sailor - I think there are five.

I also think the Maruzen Sepia ink in the vintage bottle is made by Sailor.

It's madness, I tell you, madness!!

sadly I do not have any context of Iroshi inks by sailor unless you give me an idea of the shop name perhaps I can dig some info and instant quicky look at Iroshi makes me stumble upon Iroshizuku...

San Gatsu Ichigo-iro and Roku Gatsu Sakuranbo-Iro should really look light... they are in the pink spectrum after all

I should have said Ishida, not Iroshi. You already mentioned them using the name Ishidabungu. I have a bottle of Hakodate Gagome and love it. Got it from Atsu.

What does the word Bung or Bungu mean- ink, stationery?

Breathe. Take one step at a time. Don't sweat the small stuff. You're not getting older, you are only moving through time. Be calm and positive.

Holy Moly,

This thread is making me feel like an ink spinster. Sailor seems to have their tentacles reaching everywhere.

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

文具 (Bungu) = stationary

of the asian big 3 only sailor is very prolific in inks and pens Pilot once attempted but they all end up being limited edition case in point Ito-ya's Iroshizuku set of 6 colors IIRC but of course you can also attend an ink clinic and perhaps get your own color I have seen other people post their Sailor Ink clinic number code but I feel... I do not wish to privy such matter

Unfortunately we're looking at and through a whole bottle of ink, and it's completely transparent. I think the color has settled to the bottom of the bottle. This happened to the OS Lewis Carroll ink.

it's also the same as when I bought my sister Diamine Cerise I could clearly see behind the bottle... and the same thing on Iroshizuku Kosumosu

the ink clinics are the ink equivalent to the pen clinics also held by Sailor pen group where they travel around the various B&M stores in japan offering services for ink blends and pen repair the pen repairs are typically free AND YOU CAN BRING as many pens as you want :X but that really depends on you

Although I had to search for the ink clinic, I have attended several pen clinics. Each one limited each customer to two pens per visit. I went on two different days to Maruzen's pen clinic earlier this year and had four vintage pens fixed.

オリジナルボトルインク was the only keyword I have... its very shallow... :X

Da! That's simple enough, why didn't I think of that?

Thanks?

Is it kinda similar to a in-store promo for Sailor inks? I've heard of custom perfume blends for sale from famous companies (very expensive really) but custom ink blends are new to me. Thanks for writing about your earlier topic because it does look interesting. I admit in the USA the only major ink company would be Noodler's inks or Private Reserve which are nice but different compared to Sailor inks. I'm curious though if it's possible to attend FP-related events even with low to little knowledge of Japanese?

I got really lucky. Mr. Watson, formerly of Itoya hooked me up. I had recently purchased several Sailor pens there and they took some unusual measures, more than I realized at the time, certainly more than I asked or even hoped for, to get me seated. There being just the one gent. Blending the inks. the number of people that are able to get an ink made each day is severely limited. Further, these events are put up on the schedule only a month or so in advance. I could not imagine trying to schedule a trip all the way to Japan for this, even having my own individual ink. That would entail so much last minute planning and expense with only a slim possibility of getting seated. I am told that all the slots normally available that day were filled with in minutes of the store's opening.

As far as the Japanese ability, they were greatly relieved that I had some.

Although, I haven't been to Japan since a HS exchange trip but I'd like to add it to my wish list if I ever get the chance to travel again :]

So many inks, so many colors, and so little time.

I highly recommend returning to Japan. Just don't make finding any specific ink the main goal. You will most likely leave disappointed if you do. These inks are very popular with the local folks and many are already sold out.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
