Very nice Dollar pens bluefish65 and gweimer1 !!!

Here are a couple of Visumasters I gave my girlfriend for Christmas.

The copper does not have a clear section. According to Anderson's Esterbrook dot net site this pen is correct. (Not all Visumasters had clear sections). You can't see the cap very well in the photo, but it has a three ribbed jewel. I'm not sure if the nib is correct for this pen though.

Very nice! A copper Visumaster is my current grail pen...

An updated (albeit low quality) pic of my Esterbrooks...

The two that are the transition between green and blue --- what are those???

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thank you very much. Please post a picture. All Esterbrooks are beautiful when they are polished, Visumasters even more so. Too bad Esterbrook didn't produce more of them.

For a guy who claims not to collect them, you seem to outnumber some of us who do. B)

Yeah, we should call you Bruce Jr. ;)

I picked up three Esterbrooks at the end of 2014, but none yet this year. I hope to remedy that in a few weeks at the LA Show.

Nice avatar. It reminds me of Casper the Friendly Ghost. Would that be Amber the Inky Ghost?

Yikes! While looking for some Sheaffer parts, I found another box of these things....

I should start to get rid of them, I suppose.

Best,

Daniel

I can think of a really good home for many of them.

Those are really nice, bhbarto, especially the leafy-green.

I just got these yesterday. Almost pristine - eraser has never touched paper, the pen cap has never had ink inside it.

My only Esterbrook pen is a desk set that was left in the office when I was assigned a desk in grad school back in 1964. I was told that I could have it, so it has been with me for years & years. I will be replacing the sac in a few days, and plan to use it more now that I've again become interested in fountain pens.

I remember having a red one back in grammar school, but it is lost forever. I'm wondering what is the reason that those on this forum find attractive about the Esterbrooks. They are not the high quality of Parker and Pelikan or even Sheaffer, but I gather that they are seen by many as quality pens. Is it the ease of changing nibs? Is it the price point? Are they really seen as beauties? Is it their availability? I think I would like to get a few more to add to my small stable [< 10] of Parkers and Sheaffers, but am unsure what to be looking for and where. I have re-saced two pens, but have no desire to expand my skill set to do real restoration, so I'm guessing i ought to stick to already-restored pens.

The nib in this one is in the shadow of the tree. Sorry.

Esterbrook, through it was a cheaper "economy brand", used very high quality materials in their manufacturing. The plastics used, especially in the celluloid J, is very durable. They used more material then they could have in making the pens, making the barrels thicker, and as a result the vast majority of Esterbrooks are still in perfectly restorable shape instead of becoming bent or deformed like pens from other economy manufacturers. They also use the lever fill system which is easy to restore and very reliable when restored. The interchangeable nibs mean that not only can you find one that fits your writing style, but it also means that a pen with a destroyed nib is easy to fix and salvage. Many of the nibs made also write pretty well. The pens themselves are found pretty inexpensively. In summary, we like them because the answer to every one of your questions it yes!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
