Thanks - I would agree it looks a lot like the 136 in the photo link from Chunya above, but my pen has a different clip design to this, the same design as the 135 image in the Pinterest link I've already posted. Also, I've just looked at the number again through a loop (husband's photography lens) and it is almost certainly 135! There is another number above this, on the barrel, D.R.P. 652405. Nib has 4810 and the MB logo beneath this (logo with the 'M' in the middle).

Out of interest, how rare is a 136? Any idea of value? Just need to know so we take the correct care over any restoration etc. Many thanks.

opooh suggested Tom or Max, they should make an appearance soon, but you could even PM them and ask their advice. Both very nice chaps!

Thanks, have already sent a message to Max but can't find Tom on the search.

I have lightened the pic a bit, still hard to see the numbers properly.

Thanks for doing this :-) I'd agree, it looks like a '6' here but through the camera magnifying lens it looks more like '5'. Will try to get a clearer image.

Here's a clearer, closer image my son has just taken.

Also, just compared the last digit in this with a '6' in the other number on the pen and it looks different in style. There is also an 'F' on the same section of the pen that the 135 (or 6!) is on, further around.

I still would not like to put a bet on either ..... The F will signify that the pen originally had a Fine nib ..... and the nib is probably the original.

Superb pen either way and definitely worth restoring.

Thank you. We will definitely restore whether it's a 135 or 136.

I found this on a vintage pen site:

136 War Time Meisterstuck
With the vintage 136 War Time fountain pen, collectors will have a writing unit that measures 5 1/8 inches. In addition, it features a rare palladium nib and is recognizable by its black body and gold clip.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
