I do too... Somehow, this pen has become my dedicated one for writing up good copies of homework, so that's where I'm at now / will be all weekend, basically.

Great review! I'm tempted to buy the new Nice 'pur' version, which is basically the same but with rhodium trims (and a rhodium plated converter! Indeed quite strange they didn't make a rose gold converter as well!?)

Thank you! It's really too bad they didn't make a matching converter, but I have grown to like the rhodium/rose gold combination. The Pur isn't my thing because I'm not a huge fan of rhodium trim in comparison to gold, but that's purely personal preference. It's a good, sturdy, reliable pen. I don't think you'd be disappointed :)

Thanks, tinysnail. Wonderful review and great photos, which is extremely important. Thank you and once again, superb!

Thanks! I am admittedly embarrassingly inexperienced at photography, considering I've had this camera for 5 years now, but maybe wanting to get good pictures of pens and ink and whatnot will motivate me to improve.

Hi tinysnail,

your review interest me more than any other because I'm looking for a pen JUST for math. I wanted to go Extra Fine because I write small but I'm not sure. How much do you like your Fine?

Thanks a lot

Hey!

First, here's a comparison of the 3776 F with the other pens I use most for math:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/qbnmqk4ezzos0u1/Doc%20-%20Nov%2027%2C%202014%2C%203-48%20PM.pdf?dl=0
(Pdf in dropbox; I'll upload a JPG when I get home) paper is tomoe river from Hobonichi and the grid is 3.7mm by 3.7mm.

I really like the 3776 F still. Not sure I would have wanted to go fiber if I could (they only offered F, M B at the time have they since expands the selection for the Nice?). I use it and the M200 XXF the most for math. I would recommend them the most of the above, though I use every single one of those pens every day so I do still like them all enough to keep them.

The Sheaffer is ridiiiculously fine but scratchy as a trade-off, though I do need to try it with a wet ink like Sailor's. Previously I LOVED my fine Metropolitan but I dropped it nib-down :(:( also, the Edison EF has been a picky nib. Doyou is the first ink I've used in it that didn't make the nib feel unpleasant and dry.

edited bc the grid is actually 3.7 not 5mm.... dang

Can anyone who's had this pen for a while say how well the rose-gold finish holds up? I know there are some threads discussing this issue with rose gold TWSBIs. Until now, I've been more interested in rhodium trim on pens, so I'm curious if there's any reason to expect the gold plating on the nib or clip to wear off.

How about scratching? I think at least one person in this thread mentioned that this pen is prone to scratches. Anyone else with this experience?

And if they didn't, math grad students wouldn't have such a good time growing their tutoring businesses ;)

I have told you 100,000,000 times not to exaggerate! When I did fractions in school I was often confused when the teacher spoke of "Elsie D" and division really messed me up with its "gezintas".

Just thought I would add my 2%!

I purchased mine nearly a year ago and all of the hardware is still in fine condition, no losses whatsoever. I bought a B nib purposely because I knew I could get it ground soon thereafter. Mike Masuyama looked at the nib and said "hmmm, sometimes rose gold plating can be fragile, so I need to look carefully". He did a couple preliminary things and felt it was ok, and ended up grinding a perfect 0.7 italic for me. Never a problem with the nib plating either.

As to scratches, well... I have a "Nice", and I've used it a lot as a carry pen for the year. Still looks great, but I use a pen case, and am a careful person. You could drag this on an asphalt road and get scratches if you want to. Also, due to the frosted nature of the cap/barrel, I think this pen is going to show micro-wear a lot less than the crystal clear versions like the "Pur".

Thanks for sharing your experience. I might go ahead and get this one to complete the pair. I love my Nice Pur.

Recently picked up a new Platinum Century 3776 (M) Bourgogne...via a vendor in Japan. An amazing $80 delivered via EMS in 4 days. The vendor experience was excellent. The pen...is just drop dead gorgeous and writes like a dream out of the box. Among a number of pens in the same quality class, it's my new favorite.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
