Bay Pick: Lamy Safari Red With Black Clip

Bennett

Recommended Posts

The Bay has a bargain for a Lamy Safari collector looking for the red version with a Black Clip. I already have one of these, but this one has only one bid at the moment for about 9 dollars (U.S.) and less than 14 hours to close at the time of this posting on 8/4/14. I have no connection to this seller.

It looks like some of the black coating on the clip is pretty worn. If so, could a restorer fix that?

Good point, a bidder may want to ask the seller prior to purchase. It could just be a bad pic. The seller had two of these available, I purchased the earlier one and it arrived without any clip defect on it. Just needed a good water soak cleaning.

Yeah, a restorer could fix that, for say $50 (very rough and probably inaccurate guess). You could also buy a new nib for a couple of dollars.

But that would make this used Safari almost as expensive as a new one.

And don't forget shipping!!

For a inexpensive Lamy Safari FP, check out ISellPens.com the HERO 359. $7 - $9 and uses the same nibs as the real one and they're interchangeable. The pen comes with a converter and 6 Hero ink cartridges. I think the Hero cartridges are shaped differently than the Lamy's.

Ordered the pen from Todd and got it in # DAYS.

Not sure I would say they are "The Same" nib as Lamy, unless they're Lamy is sourcing their nibs from China, and being cut and polished by Chinese, but they are interchangeable (as opposed to a Jinhao 599, where the only thing really interchangeable with a Safari is the cap).

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
