Hairline Crack In Eyedropper

Recommended Posts

There is a long hairline crack in one of my eyedropper pen. How to repair it? Though I do not use this pen very often is it possible to have a silicon grease coating at the inner surface before filling, or need to have some glue?

With Regards

If the repair is not a permanent bond, it can work loose over time. I don't think the pen can be

trusted, anymore. On the other hand, it's not MY shirt pocket.

Hi Sasha,

It does not inked my pocket, but while writing, small amount of ink mark my hand. Since the crack as it seems is not too wide so thought of some repairing.

What a splendid pen! I'm afraid I have no repair advice though.

How can you tell when you're out of invisible ink?

There are some threads about sealing (fusing) celluloid in the Repair forum. I would either post over there or PM Ron Zorn, who is an expert in such matters.

It's a beautiful pen. Good luck!

I would pout small amount of MEK in the crack, then wrap the pen very tightly in electric tape and et it cure for at least one week. Once you remove the tape, you might have to file and clean the external surface with micromesh or some mild abrasive.

I can't really see the crack in the photos...where abouts is it? Is it in the cap or the barrel? You might also like to keep an eye out for old parts pens that you can salvage a replacement part from.

Currently searching for these parts:

Have a Pelikan M200 that suffered from the same problem. Showed it to Tim Girdler, he said it looked as if it could be repaired, if the repair was done CAREFULLY. I used fresh epoxy, the old kind that is loaded with silicon. Just a drop, then cleaned off the extras. Cured for 24 hours, smoothed the surface a bit. It shows but the pen writes as well as it ever did.

Best of luck to you,

From a person's actions, we may infer attitudes, beliefs, --- and values. We do not know these characteristics outright. The human dichotomies of trust and distrust, honor and duplicity, love and hate --- all depend on internal states we cannot directly experience. Isn't this what adds zest to our life?

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.

Reminds me of the day my associates and I developed a cure for all mankind's ills and mistakenly wrote it down with invisible ink.

Was that the end of the Laboratory? Somehow the exactitude created a fully destructive device, as always!
