Diamine Autumn Oak

Recommended Posts

Disclosure: I received a 30ml bottle of this ink free from Cult Pens with no obligations. Thanks guys!

Holy mother of shade! :yikes: This is a spectacular ink from Diamine released 1 August 2014. Awesome shading and a great colour makes this ink an absolute winner for me.

Will I buy it when my sample runs out? You bet! In a gallon bottle, if they sell it.

USAGE

DAILY WRITER: Probably not (??)

BUSINESS USE: For marginal notes and minor edits, perhaps

ILLUSTRATIONS: Lovely colour if you can control the shading

NOTES: Oh yes!

LETTERS: For short letters, absolutely. May overwhelm beyond a couple of pages.

LOVE LETTERS: A candidate

PERFORMANCE

FEATHERING: 4/4 - not even with the 2.4mm nib on cartridge stock

BLEEDTHROUGH: 3.5/4 - only with the very wettest writers

SHADING: 5/4 :lticaptd:

SHEEN: 0/4 - looks like contender but none seen

FLOW: medium - dry

WATERPROOF: 0/4 - not at all

DRYING TIME: 3/4

FADE RESISTANCE: (not tested, not likely)

[Note: my scanner always struggle with heavy shading - hope you get the idea from the images below.]

Hi Cybaea,

Ver nice review.... I like the contents of the text you have witten.... You should be an author/writer...

The ink looks stunning. I MUST get some Diamine inks next Time I a in Holland. My place of birth (and where my family and friends live) is only a 15 minute drive away from Tilburg and La Couronne du Comte.

I have seen some very nice Diamine inks, lately. Teal, Ancient Copper, Oxblood....

Well I guess I will bring my Gallon er... Hectolitre together with buying several Diamines...

Question how is this ink in comparison to ancient Copper, I believe that ink is Orange brown too?

Thanks again for yet another splendid review

I'm curious to see a side-by-side with Noodlers Apache Sunset. It seems to my eye that this could be a contender in the same colour family and shading range. Gorgeous review.

The praise of the praiseworthy is above all rewards.

Unfortunately, I do not have Apache Sunset. Getting Noodler's inks in the UK is tricky, though I understand a new batch is on its way.

Hope it's with you on the morrow, Hetty. As its name suggests, it's definitely one for the Autumn palette.

Well, Autumn Oak has arrived. I only bought the 30ml bottle, but I already have plans to buy the full size one. It's an amazing colour: I don't quite know how to describe it. There are shades of brown, orange, red, but those colour names convey nothing of the subtleties and nuances evident in this ink. It's perfect for me, as I'm September born. I love it. Theank you so much Mallymal for alerting me to this ink.

Glad you like it, Hetty. I got the 30mm too, and will certainly be getting a full size bottle. The shading is wonderful isn't it.

Wowza! It looks "orangier" than Apache Sunset!

It's so hard to get Noodler's in Uk...small bottle of Diamine goes for £3, lol

I will defo put one in the basket next time I'm ordering from cultpens :)

Thanks for the review!

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
