These inks are super WET. I think they are the most amazing mixing inks.

Mixing with others, or mixing the Document inks? I tried to mix the red and blue hoping for some purple but only got a grey mush. :( OK, should probably have thought CMYK rather than RGB, but still....

I am no longer very active on FPN but feel free to message me. Or send me a postal letter!

The CYMK inks are not on the website. Well, specifically, YELLOW is not on the website. Where can we acquire yellow?

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

  • 1 month later...

Hi - I've just tested a sample of the document. Green. I really quite like the colour and having just had an accident with a water bottle and a notebook (written with GvF-C moss green, which is supposed to be waterproof) I am becoming a bit obsessive in my search for a waterproof green ink,

BUT, BUT, BUT it feathers and broadens far too much, and even in fine nibs it practically bleeds through. On Clairfontaine ... and Rhodia ... and Habanas. Oddly the best performing paper is some fairly thin Muji stuff.

Please Please, would you ask Dr. Jansen to work on this aspect of the green.

I tried adding distilled water (contra-indicated I know), to minimize the feathering, and it helped a little, but I really don't think I can use this as my primary note-taking colour as I'd like to.

EDIT : There seem to be two differing reports on the feathering. Mine was a sample from the Goulets. I have no idea how old it is.

Do you think that he changed the formulation at some point and there are two different lots out there? One with lots of feathering, and one with none (as your test shows)

RGH, mix the Doc Green with another green ink (like Moss). Then do a test, you'll be thrilled.

Cybea, sorry about the gray. I know red and blue don't really make purple, despite what I learned in kindergarten.

So, this mix was left over blues with Document Magenta....

Thanks for the quick reply!

My problem with the Moss was that my paper wicked up the water from my bag, and it was the non soluble part doing its chromatography thing that was the problem, as much as anything else.

Nonetheless, I will still try it - thanks for the tip (especially if I only need to add a little).

As you can see, the magenta made the blue ink actually stay put. The Noodler's blue was still legible, the Diamine / Chesterfield orange is GONE as is the Montblanc Corn Poppy Red.

First I want to say, it's awesome to have this selection of waterproof colors.

I tried samples of the Green and Fuchsia.

I like the Fuchsia. It behaved well and I personally liked the color.

The green? Ugh.

It's REALLY WET. I don't mind some nib creep, but this stuff just drips and I fear for my Safari's safety as it drips into the cap and smudges on the grip section. I don't want a permanent ink having this kind of scary behavior and getting on my fingers and other stuff.

It's also wet on the paper and makes a blehish thick line.

And I personally dislike the color. I'd prefer less blue in an ink referred to as the green one. Or just add a bit more blue and name it blue-green or something (i'd love a permanent DA Edgar Allen Poe).

Merlot sounds like a GREAT color to add to the lineup. I'd also like a warm green, a warm purple, a dark orange, and a purple-tinged blue. See, the colors that I see so far seem to be all cool-leaning. They go well together, but I'd like a wider range.

Hello, I've been looking for inks with little bleed through and am sad to see that the De Atramentis Green may not be at all what I'm looking for. They appear to be great for mixing custom colors, as Jane Blundell demonstrates. This is just one of a few of her recent posts, http://janeblundellart.blogspot.com/2014/11/mixing-document-inks.html

She achieves a range of greens by mixing the yellow and the two blues. I've been tempted by her results to order a bunch of the De Atramentis Document inks. Is bleed through a problem in general, or just with the green?

These inks are REALLY wet and they seem to be prone to bad behaviors. However, if you add a touch of the DeA ink to another ink, the DeA improves the water fastness of the original ink.

Also, water fast inks in my experience are more likely to bleed.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
