Bruce, you are right: I didn't see the back channel chatter. How could I? ;)

But, from the exchanges I could see, it looked like the guy was being given the puppy treatment. As for the random caps, I am intrigued by them and continue to strive to discern a pattern!

Peace,

Daniel

That's why they call them Private Messages Daniel. ;)

I'm getting old and crotchety. When some seller wants to argue that I can't read plain English in HIS own listing....

I very politely asked for some pictures of the pen uncapped and partly disassembled (if possible). No reply, no extra photos. Hmmm...

I consider myself Very Blessed in that I think Most of the high zoot Vac colors are Ooogly.

I would however, make an exception for a Raspberry. :P

What are the "high zoot Vac colors?" Not sure I'm familiar with the term -- or is that just another example of your very individualized and often quite colorful vernacular? For instance, I'm becoming increasingly fond of the word OOGLIE....

I have to say, though, that personally I don't think you could pay me enough to take a Buckskin Beige one off anyone's hands....

Just off the top of my head, no Vac maven here you know, the Mustard one, Buckskin, the Nassau green one and though not high zoot (expensive) you might as well toss Cordovan in there too.

Just from what little I know, I'd say the Raspberry falls under Uber-zoot. :P

If that's what your Stawberries look like, they're something wrong with your Strawberries. ;)

The funny thing is that confirmed plums sell for the same price and often more than that pen will even though it is much rarer. However, more people know of, and consequentially are looking for plums than DJ 51 Vacs in the "high Zoot" colors (see it's catching on ).

Apple red perhaps?

I sent the j*ck*ss erudite vendor a question as to whether the pen had a nib, since he didn't show a pic of one, or were we to price it as parts (barrel + cap).

My theory, extreme though it might be, is that if you are selling a pen, you should show that it has a business end.

Still no response to my request for pics with the cap off. I think Bruce is right. On a similar note, I asked another seller a question about something I saw in a posted picture and promptly got banned from bidding on it! What the heck is the matter with these people?

Looks burgundy to me so therefore it is burgundy. I live in a VERY subjective world.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
