I am planning to buy a Montblanc Meisterstuck 90 Years fountain pen. Should I buy 149, Classique, or LeGrand?

Thanks in advance,

William S. Park

I prefer the Le Grand size, but that is just me.

WTB Sheaffer Balance oversized with a flex nib, semi flex, broad, or medium in carmine red or grey striated.

Wtb Sheaffer Pfm in black or blue with a medium or broad nib.

I would suggest going to a boutique or authorized dealer and handling the pens. You need to find the size that works for you.

+1. Bit of groundwork before you commit but bear in mind if the bug bites you will be getting them all eventually :)

Almost two months ago I bought a LeGrand as that is what fits my hands best after having gone to a MontBlanc boutique as Orfew suggests but if I had lots of money I probably would follow Pen Nut's alternative. :yikes:

It's not a question of which one to get. The question is which one to get FIRST, then the others will be next in line. I personally got a Classique as my first fountain pen. At first, I thought I'd never use it. I soon fell in love and went straight for a 149. I love the barrel so much but I write at a higher angle, so the long nib makes it harder. I have to tilt the pen to the right so that my hand can rest on the paper and isn't up in the air. I personally am waiting to get a 146 to see if it's a happy medium.

I keep thinking about selling some of my pens but all that happens is I keep acquiring more!

I would go with the 146. Next year the 149 returns in the square presentation box in rose gold with the standard nib. I wouldn't get a Classic but that's just me. I have no Classics (144 or 145) and I won't get any eventually

The classique with the MOP emblem looks really great, a bit more than the 149 model though

I started with a 146, (F), bought from a Montblanc Boutique, then bought al older one with a flexible fine nib on ebay. Now I have two 149's one slightly old and one very old and a classique with a Medium nib. They all have their very different qualities and they are all quite comfortable to write with for extended durations.

Good luck with your quest and keep us posted on what you get.

I have to say that I usually prefer the 149 & 146 sizes, but the Classique MOP is really a beautiful pen!

With the red-gold and "90" imprint, might as well get the biggest nib to show it off :D

I've wanted the 90th Anniv. 149 since I fell in love with the 149 but it hasn't been available online with an EF ever since. I'm hoping this isn't a pen that would have to go to Hamburg for a nib exchange.

Yea EF for some reason is not popular enough to make a ton of it. When i got my EF 90th the Madison butique only got two instock.

Aw darn. Well I'm going to call soon because they may be able to "pull it from different stock" as I was told with "unavailable" online products. I'd really love one!

I guess I better get online soon for one of these before they are gone.

Thanks for scaring me into getting motivated.

I called MB service about the 90th 149. On the U.S. site it shows every optional nib out of stock. I called to find out if they were available by phone order but she said the M and EF were not and had to look at boutiques that had them in stock. I'm just hoping when I AM able to get one down the road, it will be back in stock. Surprised their supply isn't keeping up with the demand.

@Ruaidhri This was an absolutely wonderful bit of writing, and I hope that you're able to maintain the style once all of the medications are out of your system.  Take care and recover quickly!

These comments make me sad as I sympathise with Ruaidhri, having great difficulties in being taken seriously. Or being taken at all (no off-colors jokes, please!) In spite of overwhelming odds,  Ruaidhri -now I know how to spell it- made a courageous decision and stuck to it. I was diagnosed with a similar growth in a place I will not reveal. Oh, well, if you insist it was Mount Sinai Hospital. But I firmly intend to walk in Ruaidhri's footsteps, if he will let me, on my next visit to Dublin.
