International - Cooperative - Unobtainable - (I C U) Ink Review - Black Amber

This is the second of the 8 powdered inks that are a massive review. You can see the rules here at this thread: Do You Want to be an Ink Tester? The first ink we tried was Blue Amber. This ink is Black Amber. Here is a swab.

The inks are nick-named as follows:

Blue Batch A = Blue Amber

Blue Batch B = Blue Balls

Blue Batch C = Blue Cashmere

Blue Batch D = Blue Diamond

Black Batch A = Black Amber

Black Batch B = Black Balled

Black Batch C = Black Cat

Black Batch D = Black Diamond

The first 25 will absolutely get to be part of the adventure. I may open it up like I did last time.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

In for a ml, in for an L!

The Sid...

Did you receive my sample writing sheet?

If so, was it okay?

Note that this powder should have been a powder but was instead a lump of tar.

I will only send out ten of the samples and the remainder will return to Susema for testing.

Yes, please! Maybe mine will not get kidnapped this time. I gave the mailman a very stern look today. He didn't seem to notice.

I've spoken with other international testers - the ink is great once mixed. It's only the mixing that is bothersome. So forward we will go.

Why yes, I would like more. The noise in the background is just my conscience asking if I really need it. Answer is the same, "Why yes, I would like more."

Are going to sign up for each ink individually? I'd like to test this if there is room.

Slots are filled UNLESS begging is involved. I would just say that slots are filled, but I seem to respond well to begging and puppy dog eyes. It's very sad.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
