Maroon. Between the two it stands out more, but not in a blingy way. I have maroon pens, and compared to their black counterparts, the maroon ones are generally rarer and harder to come by.

to me its not the color that matters but the nib selection I got my black CH91 because that's the only color that has soft nib selections... plus I bought it in Ito-ya where there's strict regulation about replacing nibs on brand new pens such that you cant get a Tsukiyo colored CH91 with soft nibs something like that

I've got the 'ordinary' 1911 Realo in maroon. Fabulous pen and just that little bit different to be special.

I think I'm gonna go with maroon :]

The pen just has that 'unique' touch to me. I feel (in some strange way) that I could become 'attached' to this pen, just because it is more unique than a black one.

Maroon, black is too common.

One boring blue, one boring black 1mm thickness at most....

Then there are Fountain Pens with gorgeous permanent inks..

Maroon all the way! I despise black pens with gold trim. I only purchase them if I get a really good deal on a model that I don't have.

Actually when I look at my pen collection and I see my black Parker 88 & 95 next to each other I feel sad so boring.

Owner of many fine Parker fountain pens... and one Lamy.

Aye to your point that black and gold trims are boring! Silver's much better looking! :P

rhodium, by preference, if i can find it. (shiiiny... it's the upscale version of chrome.)

What color do you have the most of? Pick the other one.

Well, all my other pens are black/gold. I figured it would be nice to try something new ;)

Just ordered the maroon one, this thread can be closed now. Thanks for the response!

It could be closed, but it might be more fun for everyone to keep telling you that either 1) You're absolutely correct in your choice or 2) you made the wrong choice because black is so much more refined.

By the way, you're spot on in your colour choice. I prefer the Maroon. The same colour as my first Parker 17 and then its replacement Parker 61.

Regards,

Richard.

Tradition dictates that the thread remain open so that in seven years someone can resurrect it and add their opinion.

(And I don't love maroon as a rule, but I think it was the right choice here.)

Maroon, I have owned another model Sailor in Maroon and it's a great application of the color. That pinkish tint you posted I think is a result of flooded lighting

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
