Dilemma! Maroon Or Black!

Hello,

I'm about to buy a sailor pro gear realo, but I can't decide on the colour! Black or Maroon, what do you think? I like both pens equally, but the maroon one seems to be a little more 'adventurous' :) The black version is a safe bet though, black and gold is a classic combination that can't go wrong.

The problem is that the colour seems to vary a lot (well, relatively) with the lighting. Compare these two pictures:

The first one almost resembles pink!

I'm not a black fan so I would definitely say Maroon !

I have the Maroon, and it really has a medium chestnut colour.

I would choose the maroon !

However if black would be an option there is also the more elaborated pro gear II version.

Honestly , i do like more the new clip version , but only in black I think.

Thanks for the feedback. I like the matte black on the Sigma, but I don't like the clip.

Maroon for variety.

Have you seen these pens in person? I have & wasn't impressed with the maroon, but then again, I don't think I own more than 2 maroon pens, and I own a bunch of black pens.

How many black pens do you have? Enough to join the Black Pen Society?

I was tempted to say black until I really studied the photos.

I only have one other black pen: a pilot/namiki falcon

I vote black.

Your uncertainty about the maroon will continue after you buy it, and you will always feel a bit of a niggle.

Stock photos are always strange color wise. Even with that being said, I like the maroon/burgundy.But I also have 5 black pens and only 1 maroon/burgundy pen, so I would go that direction.

i vote maroon. black is black, and gets a little boring in my opinion; a pen that can look a little different depending even on the lighting seems more interesting.

Maroon. If you match pens and inks, this one will be a no-brainer.

I'm a "black" guy, so I'd prefer black. It's simply more conservative, which I'd prefer to something that screams for attention.

Maroon. No one makes only maroon pens, but there are lots of black only models. Always go for color when you can, you'll get more black than you want over time

I don't think so. Maroon. You'll get it and then wonder why you even considered the black.

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

BTW, Iroshizuku Yama Budo would go perfect in this pen.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
