... the more I reckon that Pilot could have charged twice as much and still produced a really good value pen. My only criticism, and it's not even really one, is that the nib has slightly less give than a Yorkshireman with rigor mortis.

 

It takes international standard cartridges (currently Diamine Orange for me), is super smooth, and weighs enough to make me think it's not a kids' pen.

 

In the same price bracket I have my Lamy Safari; another great pen. Not quite as good, for my money, although the selection of nibs is better.

 

I wish the price difference between this and my more expensive pens directly correlated to greater performance, but it doesn't. Even my M600 is better, but not 10 times better...

ohh and they do... well if you still consider the Celemo and the PIlot Custom ( no number nor does it belong to the custom series, but I would call it the "custom standard") as a good valued pen along with Platinum's standard PTL-5000 but these models arent carried by Pilot USA or Platinum international for that matter so you need to find other means but these pens carry a 14kt nib YES GOLD... at a price for what... 5000 yen and 7000 yen respectively more like 40-50 USD excluding tax and shipping

I know what you mean. My only criticisms are that they don't take the Con-70 and we can't get the italic nib from the penmanship. I prefer softer nibs and the pilot custom pens + value proposition is top notch. If you like the m600, have a look at the C92.

and if you dont like the demonstrator look at CH91 and it's sister model the CH912, Custom is different in Custom Heritage but its more of the design and furniture trims that whan it is... if you like the retro feel also the gold trims and gold furniture look for C74 and it's sister model the C742

 

pros and cons between CH91 and CH92

i that CH91 has a broader selection of number 5 nibs

as CH91 in black has EF, F, SF, FM, SFM, M, SM, B and BB

CH 91 has F, FM, M and B

however they are interchangable so if you like Pilot soft nibs I would go for CH91 however these nibs are only for the black color the Ama-iro and Yama-budo, Yama-guri and Tsukiyo have no soft options but again they are inter-changeable and CH91 is a bit cheaper but you probably have to pay for the converter depending on the seller
