So, what paper colours complement or contrast our wonderful collection of inks?

I've found cream coloured paper matches Waterman's Absolute Brown well - much better than brown and white paper.

Has anyone used any paper & ink combinations and thought "Gosh, that really works." Of course they may compliment each other or create a complete contrast.

Does anyone have anything they'd like to share here?

How about paper texture too? My personal idea is that smooth paper goes well with saturated ink and finer nibs, while textured paper calls for lighter ink and broader nibs.

I find yellow paper (like some legal pads) goes well with a dark blue or purple ink. At the moment I have a bottle of Fahrney's Ever-Write DC Supershow Blue (AKA Private Reserve DC Supershow Blue) at work for such papers.

I wrote some thank you notes on Italian cream colored paper (see photo) with J. Herbin Rouge Hermatite ink. The look was sensational --the ink really stands out on a soft cream paper!

Glad to see this recent thread. I have some black paper, and some Field Notes with darker covers. What color ink works well and shows up on dark papers?

Would love an answer.

I love to doodle with the UV inks on really dark papers... so the Noodler's highlighter inks, Whiteness of the Whale and Ghost Blue.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Thank you to amberleadavis.

I was wondering if anyone else had success with light inks on darker paper (other than Noodler's ink). Like maybe a yellow by J Herbin.

Brown on cream works well, my favoured combination being Diamine Chocolate Brown on Paperchase # 18 or 33, but dark blues such as Diamine BB or even Pelikan Bb do well too.

Dark blues on light blue paper like Basildon Bond blue go well.
