Wanting An Inexpensive 1.1Mm Italic To Take Noodlers Bulletproof Ink

I think I'll be getting a Safari with a 1.1mm Nib! Thanks guys! Should I bother with the Z24 for the Noodlers bulletproof inks or stick with syringe refilling the cartridge it comes with?

Thanks again,

Adam

After looking around I'm not certain I want to roll with a Konrad. The reviews seem to be quite the mixed bag so far.

Will the Lamy Safari/AL handle the Noodlers ink? I'm leaning more toward the AL, should last forever +.

Is there a reason why I should prefer a TWSBI over a Lamy? This pen is probably going to see a lot of pocket time, not sure how or if that matters between the TWSBI/Lamy

The Lamy is a great pen, but I have found that the combination of Lamy and Noodlers Black to lead to a LOT of nib creep.

Its only an aesthetic thing, but it bothers some people (me being one)

I didn't find it too much of an issue with the pilot 78g B

I had a similar thread a few weeks ago. I'm not in any rush, so the choices are on the back-burner, but my current front runners are:

Twsbi Mini/580. Yes, it actually goes over by $5 for the stub nib, but I really like my mini in ef.

Pilot Prera with the "calligraphy" nib (more or less equivalent to a 1.1 stub). Rather similar to the Twsbi Mini actually in size and appearance, but without that cavernous dedicated piston filler. However, I can actually get it for $20 cheaper, and I'd like to try a Pilot anyway.

Noodler Ahab with the Goulet 1.1 stub nib. Actually, I could just get the nib and put it in the current Ahab, but I'd kind of like a dedicated pen for the nibs, rather than swapping them about. There are a number of fairly inexpensive pens you could use the Goulet nib with (alternately, I could get the Twsbi stub nib and feed, which like the Goulet, is a JoWo nib, but again, I'd like a whole dedicated pen rather than swapping things around).

I have a TWSBI Mini 1.1 stub and love it.

I also have the Pilot 78G B which is great for the money. But mine did write a little dry. Nothing a razorblade to the feed didn't fix though...

Personally I think the TWSBI is very much worth the premium over the 78G, as the nib on the TWSBI was smoother and the pen in general feels a bit more substantial than the 78G.

... Never underestimate the power of human stupidity ...

also vote for Mr.Pen's Italix, it's a great value, you wouldn't know it from the heft and performance.

I have the Sailor Naginata and some fancy blade nibs coming after 2022 by a number of new workshop from China.  With all my respect, IMHO, they are all (bleep) in doing chinese characters.  Go use a bush, or at least a bush pen.

It is the reason why I'm so keen on the idea of a personal library — of pens, nibs, inks, paper products, etc. — and spent so much money, as well as time and effort, to “build” it for myself (because I can't simply remember everything, especially as I'm getting older fast) and my wife, so that we can “know”; and, instead of just disposing of what displeased us, or even just not good enough to be “given the time of day” against competition from >500 other pens and >500 other inks for our at

Agreed.  And I think it’s good to be aware of this early on and think about at the point of buying rather than rationalizing a purchase..

Alas, one cannot know “good” without some idea of “bad” against which to contrast; and, as one of my former bosses (back when I was in my twenties) used to say, “on the scale of good to bad…”, it's a spectrum, not a dichotomy. Whereas subjectively acceptable (or tolerable) and unacceptable may well be a dichotomy to someone, and finding whether the threshold or cusp between them lies takes experiencing many degrees of less-than-ideal, especially if the decision is somehow influenced by factors o

I got my first real fountain pen on my 60th birthday and many hundreds of pens later I’ve often thought of what I should’ve known in the beginning. I have many pens, the majority of which have some objectionable feature. If they are too delicate, or can’t be posted, or they are too precious to face losing , still they are users, but only in very limited environments..  I have a big disliking for pens that have the cap jump into the air and fly off. I object to Pens that dry out, or leave blobs o
